Ho Chi Minh City: Urgent need to establish a backup data center.

On the afternoon of June 26th, the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, in collaboration with the Southern Branch of the Information Security Association, organized a workshop titled "Models and Options for Selecting a City-Based Backup Data Center".

Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, stated that in the current context of strong digital transformation, all activities of the government and business organizations must be built and operated on a digital platform. However, digital transformation still faces significant risks and challenges, especially software errors and increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks, which pose a constant threat that can occur at any time, affecting data security and information safety for all agencies, units, businesses, and individuals.

Given these potential risks, Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh believes that proposing the deployment of a backup data center is not only a solution but also an urgent requirement. A backup data center will help Ho Chi Minh City ensure the continuity of information systems and shared digital platforms, serving government operations and providing public services to citizens and businesses in the digital environment. Furthermore, this center will help the city improve its disaster recovery capabilities and protect critical data of agencies, units, and organizations in the area.

At the workshop, experts and managers in the technology field shared their experiences and knowledge on deploying and managing redundant data centers. Experts also presented new technologies, solutions, and trends in data center and information security, using modern methods to improve the efficiency and security of data systems.

According to technology experts, many organizations still maintain traditional security thinking, relying on physical firewalls that have been around for many years. However, in protecting critical company systems and data, hardware-based web/app firewalls are limited due to the increasing number of large-scale and sophisticated cyberattacks. Therefore, to protect data, businesses and organizations need to supplement their solutions with flexible security solutions that are not limited by load capacity. In particular, to protect data infrastructure, organizations need a highly skilled security support team trained to detect data leaks and information breaches early.
