Apple is reportedly developing a new feature in iOS 27 to improve app display on larger screens and in landscape mode. This includes the ability to split app windows on iPhones. This move is seen as crucial preparation for the first foldable iPhone expected to launch this year. In fact, similar solutions have been available on Samsung and LG phones since 2012.

The information was shared on the social media platform Weibo by the leaker Fixed Focus Digital. According to this blogger, Apple is researching a mechanism tentatively called "Parallel View," which would allow iPhone apps to automatically adapt to the larger screen without requiring developers to redesign the interface.

Currently, most iPhone apps are built for portrait screens with a long and narrow aspect ratio. This is one of the biggest limitations of iOS when scaling to larger or foldable devices. Without an operating system-level solution, many apps may appear with black gaps or display poorly on larger screens.

According to Fixed Focus Digital, Apple is looking to address this issue similarly to how Huawei's HarmonyOS adapts apps for larger screens. However, the source emphasizes that Apple is not directly copying Huawei's solution but developing its own mechanism based on the experience of optimizing the interface already gained on iPadOS.

In fact, iPads have long possessed the ability to adjust app interfaces at the system level when users switch between portrait and landscape modes. Meanwhile, iOS on iPhones still lacks a similar mechanism.

This new information also reinforces a previous report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. In March, Gurman stated that iOS 27 would support running two apps simultaneously on the inner screen of foldable iPhones. The operating system is expected to incorporate more iPadOS features, including a multitasking interface and a left-hand navigation bar in compatible apps.

Recent rumors suggest that Apple's first foldable iPhone model may have an internal display of around 7.8 inches. This size is close to that of a small tablet, making app optimization a must if Apple wants to deliver a seamless user experience.

Besides changes related to foldable screens, iOS 27 is expected to further expand AI features, upgrade Siri, and add more interface customization options. Apple is expected to announce the new operating system at the WWDC 2026 event this month before its official release in the fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series and the first foldable iPhone.
