On March 11th, the Election Committee for the 16th National Assembly and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for the 2026-2031 term held its eighth meeting to review the progress of preparations for the March 15th election.
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tan Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Affairs, stated that election preparations in the city have been carried out seriously and in accordance with regulations, and are ready for election day.

The city's election committee proactively developed a plan, issued working regulations, assigned tasks to its members, and promptly issued directives and guidelines immediately after its establishment. At the same time, the committee regularly monitored and urged the supporting subcommittees and relevant agencies to ensure that preparations progressed according to plan.
At the grassroots level, the implementation work of the commune-level election committees has basically met the requirements and progress as prescribed; difficulties and obstacles have been promptly reported to seek guidance. As a result, the election preparation tasks have been implemented synchronously and smoothly to date.
The city has finalized 13 election committees for the 16th National Assembly and 40 election committees for the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for the 2026-2031 term.

After review and updating, the total number of voters in the city is currently approximately 9.7 million. The printing and delivery of voter cards to the commune-level election committees have been completed.
Voter outreach activities were widely implemented with over 2,800 voter outreach meetings (as of March 8th), attracting hundreds of thousands of voters. In addition, the city organized 3,906 seminars on the biographies of National Assembly and People's Council representatives at all levels, with over 152,000 attendees.
Election awareness campaigns were also widely implemented through various forms, including visual displays, mass media, digital platforms, and election-related quizzes. The city also developed plans to ensure healthcare , food safety, and disaster response scenarios during the election period.

According to the city's election committee, the early voting in four areas of Phuoc Thang ward, Tam Thang ward, and Long Son commune took place safely and in accordance with regulations, achieving a voter turnout of 96%. After voting was completed, the ballot boxes were sealed and stored according to regulations, awaiting vote counting at the same time as nationwide on March 15th.
Speaking at the session, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc – Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, and Vice Chairman of the City Election Committee – acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the members of the City Election Committee, departments, agencies, and localities in implementing election preparations on schedule, in accordance with legal regulations, and ensuring quality.
He suggested continuing to strengthen inspection and supervision of election preparation and organization before and during election day, ensuring that no errors or incidents occur.
Concluding the meeting, Mr. Vo Van Minh – Chairman of the City People's Council and Chairman of the City Election Committee – requested that agencies, units, and localities focus on seriously and synchronously implementing the tasks as prescribed; ensuring progress, quality, and safety throughout the entire election preparation process.
He emphasized that the election day for National Assembly and People's Council representatives at all levels is a crucial political event for Ho Chi Minh City after the merger, therefore, preparations must be thorough to ensure the election is successful and to promote the right of voters and the people to self-governance.
