Ho Chi Minh City is developing 6 urban zones.

The revised master plan for Ho Chi Minh City until 2040, with a vision to 2060, was announced on the morning of June 25th. The plan defines the planning scope as encompassing the entire (old) Ho Chi Minh City, with a total area of 2,095 km², divided into 6 development zones. These zones will develop into 60 "living basins," integrating living, working, shopping, and entertainment spaces. These areas will be connected to the city center by a public transportation system, ensuring residents can travel within a 5 km radius in approximately 15-20 minutes.

6 The partition includes:

1. Central urban zoning (the area located inside Ring Road 2 and north of the Doi Canal and Te Canal);

2. The center of the northern zone – the area where Ring Road 3 and National Highway 22 intersect, leading to the Moc Bai - Ho Chi Minh City Expressway;

3. The center of the western sub-region – Tan Kien area;

4. The center of the Southern zone – the Phu My Hung area extending to the South;

5. Center of the Southeast region – Can Gio reclaimed land urban area;

6. Thu Duc City Center.

Each region is oriented towards key characteristics but is a multifunctional area capable of meeting the needs for high-quality employment and living environments locally for a large segment of the population; fulfilling a central role at the regional, national, and international levels – linked to the urban infrastructure framework and TOD (Transit-Oriented Development).
