(To Quoc) - "Hue - Remembering My Mother of Yesteryear" is an activity within the "Flavors of Home" culinary event series organized by Man Moi Restaurant on June 22nd. At this event, food lovers will experience the story of preserving the soul of traditional Hue cuisine in their homes, told in a simple, heartfelt, and inspiring way by two generations of Hue natives: Mother Nguyen Thi Thuong and TikToker Dao Huu Quy.

In particular, at this event, diners will also have the opportunity to experience making traditional cakes and enjoy 10 signature Hue delicacies prepared by the two special guests of the program and the Mặn Mòi kitchen team, including Banh bot loc (tapioca dumpling), Banh nam (steamed rice cake), Banh canh tom (shrimp noodle soup), Bun giam nuoc (rice noodle soup with vinegar and fish sauce), Che dau van (steamed mung bean sweet soup), Che dau xanh (green bean sweet soup), Banh bo jam (steamed rice cake with jam), Banh te dieu (rice cake with chili), Banh phuc linh (rice cake with Poria cocos), and Tra moc lien (a type of herbal tea).

Hue, the former imperial capital, is a land where culinary art bears its own unique mark, characterized by elegance, sophistication, and diversity, from royal to folk cuisine. Hue women play a crucial role in preserving Hue's culinary traditions, having inherited cooking secrets from their mothers and grandmothers through family traditions. Generation after generation, they are like artisans preserving the beauty of Hue's cuisine through daily meals in their homes. Perhaps that is why, no matter where they go or what they do, the children of Hue can never forget the familiar aroma of their mothers' kitchens.

While Ma Thuong's story is that of a Hue woman preserving the flavors of her homeland in her home, Dao Huu Quy – a TikToker living and working in Hue – wants to share the story in the way of a young person preserving and spreading the beauty of Hue culture in modern times.

At the event, guests not only enjoyed fragrant pastries but also savored the famous Hue specialty tea while participating in the experience of folding beautiful five-colored paper boxes used to hold tea and pastries in the traditional Hue style, reflecting the five elements characteristic of Eastern culture.
