In 2003, the microwave broadcasting unit of Lang Son Radio and Television Station was established to transmit signals within satellite television systems (the predecessor of the main control unit) under the Program Production Technical Department. After 20 years of operation, in 2023, the station's main control unit was upgraded with modern, state-of-the-art equipment meeting national standards.
The main control room of the Lang Son Newspaper and Radio-Television Station is currently designed separately, with a modern, complex technical equipment system and is strictly protected.
Mr. Tran Vu Anh, Head of the Technical and Technology Department of Lang Son Radio and Television Station, stated: The central control unit is responsible for managing and operating the technical infrastructure system serving data reception and transmission, monitoring and supervising television programs on various channels and digital platforms. The central control unit also performs tasks such as checking the integrity of data before broadcasting; operating backup broadcasting systems; and handling broadcasting incidents according to established procedures, ensuring safety and continuity.
In addition, the central control department is involved in managing equipment systems operated by other departments, and coordinating the operation of systems serving production and broadcasting.
Currently, the central control unit of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio-Television Station is staffed by four officers who operate the entire system for receiving, transmitting, and switching radio channels, as well as transmitting data to other digital infrastructure platforms of the agency.
Mr. Tran Dinh Nam, a technician and staff member who has worked in the main control room for 17 years, said: "The job of manning the main control room may seem simple, but it is extremely stressful and hazardous. In addition to exploiting and distributing signals, receiving, processing, and distributing signals for production and broadcasting, staff on duty must also monitor and supervise signals, images, and sound to ensure the broadcasting system operates according to procedures and at optimal performance."
Due to the nature of their work, each officer in charge of a shift must concentrate intensely on the equipment system to monitor the technical infrastructure in order to detect and handle incidents promptly.
Mr. Ngo Hong Quan, an officer in the Technical-Technology Department, who has worked in the main control room for two years, shared: Officers working in the main control room, in addition to monitoring audio and video signals, also record incident logs, compile and report broadcasts daily and as requested; coordinate with functional departments to conduct periodic equipment checks, perform minor repairs on machinery and equipment managed by other departments, and participate in other tasks as requested by the leadership.
According to the operating regulations of the main control room, the team of technicians is divided into three shifts per day. The first shift runs from 5:30 AM to 12:00 PM; the second from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM; and the third from 6:00 PM to midnight. The work for each shift is the same, but the night shift is much more stressful due to the numerous important broadcasts scheduled during prime time. Maintaining a smooth and stable transmission is extremely demanding, but with their love and responsibility for the profession, those working in the main control room strive to perform their duties well.
According to data from the Technical-Technology Department, the central control unit of the Lang Son Newspaper and Radio-Television Station is currently responsible for receiving data, transmitting, and allocating broadcast signals for various television platforms, including: the digital platform for channel 27 terrestrial television; the LSTV go platform; the Langsontv.vn website; transmitting HD signals via satellite; transmitting signals forFPT TV; Viettel TV; My TV; relaying VTV signals; managing all agency-wide data storage servers; and transmitting radio broadcast signals via satellite and the Mau Son broadcasting station. Simultaneously, the central control unit also collaborates with specialized departments within the agency to produce and control files for broadcasting.
Journalist Nguyen Dong Bac, Editor-in-Chief of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio-Television Station, stated: The main control room of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio-Television Station was upgraded to meet national standards in 2023. The main control room is the heart of the broadcasting agency; it is also likened to a steel shield protecting information signals through a strict and secure process. With the investment in modern and synchronized equipment at the main control room, risks in the production and transmission of radio and television broadcasts have been minimized. This contributes to improving the quality of propaganda by Lang Son Newspaper and Radio-Television Station in fulfilling the local political tasks.
The central control system plays a crucial role in maintaining the stability of broadcasting and transmission for radio and television stations. Therefore, the central control system is increasingly being invested in comprehensively in terms of technology and personnel, and the operating staff requires precision, meticulousness, and a high sense of responsibility to ensure that radio and television signals reach far and wide to serve viewers and listeners.
