Over the past five years, Lang Son province has received over 44,000 units of blood to supply hospitals at the central and provincial levels.
More chances of survival for patients.

Having donated blood 40 times, Dr. Vi Van Phong, from the Intensive Care and Toxicology Department of Lang Son Provincial General Hospital, shared, "As someone who directly treats many critically ill patients, I understand the significance of every drop of blood for those who need transfusions. With the desire to contribute to saving patients' lives, I always maintain the habit of donating blood regularly and am ready to donate blood on an emergency basis when patients need it. I believe this is a social responsibility of a doctor."
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, residing in Dong Kinh ward, who has donated blood eight times, said that blood donation does not affect health. He believes it is a very meaningful act that requires the collective effort of everyone. Each time he donates blood, he feels he has contributed a small part to helping patients who need blood transfusions, so he always tries to maintain this habit and also encourages his relatives and friends to participate.
According to Ly Kim Soi, Deputy Director of the Lang Son Provincial Department of Health , voluntary blood donation is not just an annual movement for medical staff, but a command from the heart of a healthcare professional. The fact that medical staff regularly register to donate blood and are ready to donate blood in emergencies helps hospitals proactively and promptly save patients' lives in urgent situations.
This action also affirms the commitment of the Lang Son Health Department, not only to treating patients with expertise and techniques but also with the heartfelt blood of its medical staff , thereby building trust among the people in doctors. With a noble humanitarian spirit, for the sake of patients' lives, the voluntary blood donation program organized by the department in early 2026 has seen hundreds of officials, doctors, and medical staff register to participate.
For many years, voluntary blood donation has been considered a regular movement, an opportunity for officials, employees, and workers in the province to demonstrate their responsibility to the community.
Sharing his thoughts on the voluntary blood donation movement in the province, Tran Thanh Nhan, Vice Chairman of the Lang Son Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, assessed that voluntary blood donation has spread increasingly widely, with more and more people donating blood repeatedly, and many families with multiple members participating together.
Lang Son is a mountainous province with nearly 84% ethnic minority population. Despite the scattered settlements in some areas, the province's voluntary blood donation rate currently stands at approximately 1.3% - 1.4% of the population, higher than the 0.98% recorded five years ago.
The Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation emphasized: The amount of blood collected each year confirms that mobilizing and encouraging people to donate blood to save lives is no longer solely the responsibility of the Red Cross Society, but of the entire political system and society. Therefore, localities, departments, political and social organizations, and the people need to continue to maintain and expand this noble act of donating blood to save lives…
Establishing a stable blood "bank"

According to Vu Thi Quyen, Vice President of the Lang Son Provincial Red Cross Society, in the first four months of 2026, the province organized five voluntary blood donation drives, collecting a total of over 2,560 units of blood. The province aims to receive 12,500 units of blood for the entire year of 2026.
To further develop the voluntary blood donation movement, the Red Cross Society has implemented a comprehensive set of solutions; these include focusing on promoting in-depth communication, shifting from simple appeals to persuasion through specific information about the benefits and procedures of blood donation, and raising awareness; closely coordinating with relevant sectors and organizations to hold blood donation events; and building and maintaining a core blood donation force to gradually form a habit of regular blood donation among the people, contributing to ensuring a sufficient blood supply for emergency and treatment purposes.
The Association empowers commune-level authorities to proactively develop plans and select appropriate communication methods tailored to local characteristics; maximizing the role of grassroots information systems such as loudspeakers, community Zalo groups, and social media to disseminate information quickly and effectively to the target audience. Simultaneously, localities should focus on building a core force of communicators at the grassroots level, linked to local branches and organizations; strengthening inter-commune coordination, forming communication clusters, and organizing mobile communication activities and blood donation drives on an appropriate scale…
The Provincial Red Cross Society also proactively coordinates with the Health sector, departments, agencies, organizations, and armed forces to organize blood donation drives tailored to different target groups, focusing on peak periods associated with major campaigns and events to create widespread impact and attract a large number of participants. In addition, the Society implements various other approaches such as: applying information technology in blood donation management; commending and rewarding exemplary individuals and groups in blood donation; and replicating models of "exemplary blood-donating families"...

In particular, the Red Cross Society is interested in establishing and maintaining voluntary blood donation clubs to contribute to building a stable and sustainable blood supply. Currently, the province has 16 voluntary blood donation clubs with more than 1,000 members. From 2024 to the present, club members have donated nearly 90 units of blood in emergency situations…
According to Mr. Trieu Gia Trong, Chairman of the "Living Blood Bank" Club in Lang Son, the club was established in 2022 and currently has over 210 members from various professions and industries. Members not only donate blood during organized campaigns but also promote and encourage blood donation among the public and promptly mobilize blood donors in emergency situations. From 2025 to the present, the club has had 15 volunteers participate in emergency blood donations, providing timely support for emergency care and treatment for patients.
According to the Lang Son Provincial Red Cross Society, during the period 2023-2025, the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation received more than 30,200 units of blood, an increase of over 9,200 units compared to the period 2019-2022. In 2025, the entire province organized 21 blood donation drives, receiving over 9,630 units of blood.
