A corner of the "Cardware" exhibition space.

The exhibition, curated by artist Le Thiet Cuong, is an activity commemorating the 75th anniversary of the birth of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep (1950-2025).

During his lifetime, Nguyen Huy Thiep was a writer who loved painting, especially ceramics. He frequently visited ceramics and the Bat Trang pottery village. He painted many portraits of family members, self-portraits, and literary friends on plates as a hobby and as gifts for others. Many people still keep and display them in their homes as mementos of the writer Nguyen Huy Thiep.

All 41 artists participating in this exhibition are readers of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep. Before they painted, before they became artists, they were readers. Therefore, according to artist Le Thiet Cuong, calling the ceramic works in this exhibition illustrations is inaccurate because it shouldn't be understood literally; such illustrations would devalue both literature and art.

Illustration should translate that sentence into another language, the language of painting. That is, to transform the text into form, color, light and shadow, shapes, lines, and composition… so that the text gains another life, and the reader has another way of reading it.

Besides the works of other artists, this space also displays a corner featuring works by the writer Nguyen Huy Thiep himself.

The exhibition runs until July 20th.
