AP, citing information from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), reported that North Korea test-fired a missile from the Sinpo area on the morning of April 19. According to the South Korean President's Office, the National Security Council plans to hold an emergency meeting to discuss Pyongyang's missile launches.
"South Korea has strengthened its surveillance capabilities and is exchanging information closely with the United States and Japan," the JCS announced.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense also detected these launches, stating that the missiles are believed to have fallen into the sea off the east coast of North Korea.
Japan's Ministry of Defense added that Tokyo strongly condemns Pyongyang, saying the April 19 launch threatens regional and international peace and violates United Nations Security Council resolutions prohibiting all North Korean missile launches.
Last week, North Korea said leader Kim Jong Un had overseen missile tests from its destroyer. Following the test launch, Kim said North Korea remains focused on “unlimited expansion” of its nuclear forces and issued unspecified new missions aimed at enhancing the country’s nuclear strike and rapid response capabilities.
