Rafael Nadal is making an impressive comeback after nearly a year out of action. The Spaniard was too strong for the young Australian in the Brisbane International round of 16.

In the first match, Nadal beat Dominic Thiem and he continued his impressive form when facing Kubler. Dropping only 2 points in the first 3 service games, plus 2 breaks, Nadal easily led 5-0 in the first set.

Seemingly to further confirm his impressive comeback, Nadal let his opponent lead 40-0 in game 7, then he continuously saved break-points, successfully defended his serve game and sealed a 6-1 victory.

In the second set, Kubler had absolutely no chance of defeating Nadal. The Spanish player had a break in the first game (1-0) and accelerated to victory with a break in the seventh game (5-2). Nadal won 6-2 and ended the match after 1 hour and 23 minutes.

In the quarterfinals, Nadal will face Jordan Thompson, a player from the host country who did not have to compete in the round of 16 because his opponent Ugo Humbert withdrew.
