Which milk is "real milk"?
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lam - former Deputy Director of the National Institute of Nutrition, according to Vietnamese standards, the domestic market currently has pasteurized milk, sterilized milk or reconstituted milk. According to regulations, these types of milk all have a protein content of 2.7g/100ml of milk.
However, there is now a fruit milk product on the market. This is a product named by the company. However, fruit milk usually has a protein content of less than 1g/100ml, or fat content of less than 1g/100ml and provides energy to the body. However, consumers often misunderstand white milk (liquid, watery, powdered milk) and fruit milk as one.
"Parents should have a correct understanding of dairy products. For example, do dairy products meet the prescribed standards, are they licensed by medical facilities, are they produced in factories that meet standards? Are they guaranteed to be safe and hygienic? From there, they can make the most suitable choice for their children. They should not just believe in advertisements to choose products," Associate Professor Lam advised.
According to Associate Professor Lam, according to research by the National Institute of Nutrition, for many years the calcium intake of Vietnamese people has only met 50-60% of the recommended needs.
Doctors always encourage people to supplement calcium through their diet, including milk. However, when choosing milk, you also need knowledge and need to follow Vietnamese standards.
Difficulties in managing dairy products
According to Ms. Tran Viet Nga - Deputy Director of the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ), according to regulations, the groups that need to register and submit documents include health protection foods, medical foods and foods for special diets, foods for children under 36 months old and food additives not on the list of permitted additives prescribed by the Ministry of Health.
Other products are self-declared, businesses build their own profiles, regulations, and standards of the manufacturer, only need 1 profile, posted on the website. The government creates favorable conditions to help businesses not have to wait, shortening time and procedures.
However, from this regulation, some businesses have also appeared that do not operate honestly, taking advantage of the openness and advertising products that do not comply with regulations.
"The advertising problem is causing many misunderstandings that are difficult to control. Especially when the advertisement uses images of doctors and medical staff," Ms. Nga cited.
According to Ms. Nga, although product post-inspection and advertising control are still being carried out, they are still difficult. Anonymous websites or servers located abroad make it very difficult for authorities to find the main unit.
For organizations and individuals whose advertising products violate the law, they deny and do not acknowledge the products... leading to difficulties in management and punishment./.

According to Associate Professor Lam, for mothers who are raising young children, breast milk is still the best food for their children. Mothers can improve their diet and supplement with more micronutrients to improve the quality of milk for their children. In case the mother has little milk or cannot breastfeed for some medical reason, she should choose the type of milk suitable for her child's age group and choose milk products from large, reputable businesses with brands on the market because they are guaranteed to meet the prescribed standards and regulations. |
