In the frequently flooded plains of Bangladesh, solar-powered "floating schools" provide educational opportunities for thousands of children isolated by floodwaters. This initiative not only helps maintain education during the flood season but has also become a symbol of resilience and innovation in community education .

In Chalan Beel, a frequently flooded area in western Bangladesh, boats are the easiest means of transportation. Therefore, classes are also held on boats to ensure that students' learning is not interrupted.

The initiative was designed by architect Mohammed Rezwan in 2002 and the technology was transferred to the non-profit organization Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha (SSS). The boats are equipped with solar panels to store electricity. To date, more than 100 similar boats have been deployed in flood-prone areas of Bangladesh, supporting over 22,000 students.

Sakhina Khatun, a teacher at the "floating school," shared: "These schools never close, even during floods."

Each day, classes are organized into three shifts, teaching Bengali, Mathematics, and General Knowledge. This model has spread not only in Bangladesh but also to Nigeria, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
