The special case of Pham Ly Duc

Despite being included in the V-League 2025-2026 championship count with Hanoi Police FC, Pham Ly Duc unfortunately lost in the play-off while playing for PVF-CAND and was relegated to the First Division.

On the evening of June 12th in Ha Tinh, PVF-CAND Club lost to Bac Ninh on penalties (4-5) in the play-off match of the 2025-2026 season and will return to the First Division from next season. Central defender Pham Ly Duc was part of the PVF-CAND team.

Despite only playing 3 matches for Hanoi Police FC before being loaned to PVF-CAND, Duc is still being considered by the team for the V-League 2025-2026 championship.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , in addition to the championship trophy, Hanoi Police Club also received a set of 45 gold medals from VPF Company. Although Duc was not present at the awards ceremony, he will receive them later.

Pham Ly Duc is not the first Vietnamese football player to win the V-League championship and then be relegated in the same season. Before him was Pham Duc Huy, who won the V-League championship with Nam Dinh but was relegated with Binh Dinh in the 2024-2025 season, also on loan.

However, for Duc, his loan contract ends at the end of June. The player is expected to be recalled by Hanoi Police FC and will have the opportunity to be registered to participate in the V-League next season, and possibly even regional and continental competitions.

Pham Ly Duc, born in 2003, rose through the ranks of the Nutifood academy and had a breakout season with Hoang Anh Gia Lai in 2024 before joining Hanoi Police FC in 2025.

That was also the year Duc excelled while playing for the Vietnam U23 team in regional and continental tournaments, and was promoted to the Vietnam national team by coach Kim Sang Sik.

Although he couldn't lead PVF-CAND's defense to avoid relegation, Duc remains one of the most promising and highly-rated central defenders in Vietnamese football.
