The first public elementary school to offer free golf to students

(Dan Tri) - To Vinh Dien Primary School, Hanoi , will teach golf to 100% of students from the beginning of 2025, becoming the first public school in Vietnam to include golf in its curriculum.

The signing ceremony for training and popularizing school golf for all students of To Vinh Dien Primary School (Dong Da District, Hanoi) took place on the morning of November 18.

This is a multi-stakeholder cooperation project between the school, the Vietnam Golf Promotion and Development Center (VNCentre), the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) and the World Golf Management and Development Agency The R&A.

According to the plan, golf will be included in the after-school curriculum of To Vinh Dien Primary School from January 2025 with a duration of 1 period/week.

Students will be introduced to the sport through the SNAG tool - a golf learning kit for ages 5-15. The curriculum, training methods, coaches, and learning tools are all provided by VNCentre.

The project does not use public budget, 100% of students study for free.

Ms. Ha Ngoc Lan - Principal of To Vinh Dien Primary School - said that this is an important milestone for the school in the process of comprehensive educational innovation in the spirit of the 2018 general education program.

"Bringing golf to schools not only helps diversify physical activities and school sports, but also helps students access an international sport.

Through the subject, students are trained in many good qualities such as calmness, patience, concentration, honesty, the will to overcome challenges, politeness... These are factors that help children succeed not only in studying but also in life," Ms. Lan shared.

In the immediate future, the school will implement the project in the 2024-2025 school year. After 1 semester of implementation, the school will evaluate the results, survey the wishes of students and parents, and make plans for the following school years.

Mr. Vu Anh Long - Director of VNCentre Youth Golf Development Project - said that this is the second school that the unit has cooperated with in training and is the first public school.

Mr. Long believes that the curriculum built according to US standards will help students learn effectively and enjoy golf.

The project also aims to transfer the training program to the school's teachers so that the school can continue to implement it on its own after the cooperation ends.

"Because this is a free learning project, we are actively gathering sponsors to help the program expand to many public schools in Vietnam, making golf an official sport in schools.

This is important in discovering and nurturing golf talents early, creating a source of talent in this sport for Vietnam," Mr. Long expressed.

Mr. Long also affirmed that with the cooperation of the community and society, public schools can completely access modern, international educational standards.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Trinh Hoai Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Primary Education, Ministry of Education and Training, highly appreciated the golf training and popularization cooperation project of To Vinh Dien Primary School.

"Popularizing golf for primary school students has practical significance, ensuring the goal of comprehensive physical development, linking physical education with education on qualities and life skills.

I hope the project will be developed, forming golf clubs in schools, and from this school there will be promising golf talents in the future," said Ms. Thu.
