Osteoarthritis is a gradual process that slowly reduces the weight-bearing capacity of the articular cartilage. This condition is no longer associated with changes in weather or the elderly. Nowadays, osteoarthritis is a common problem for young people, especially those in their 30s. A recent study in Vietnam showed that 30% of people over 35 experience osteoarthritis.

Minh Nguyet (32 years old, accountant) shared: "In the past, sitting in an office for 8 hours a day was 'fine,' but since turning 30, those 8 hours have become more difficult. My body started to show signs of pain in my shoulders and neck, sometimes the pain radiates down to my shoulder blades. The pain isn't just a dull ache while sitting at the computer, but also comes in the morning after waking up."

Le Huy (36 years old, driver) shared: "When I first started this job, my neck and lower back would ache by midday, and my wrists would go numb from holding the steering wheel for hours. My whole body would be sore at night, and sometimes even changing to a side-sleeping position would leave my neck stiff. Now I'm used to these aches and pains."

Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh, President of the Vietnam Association of Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement, said that symptoms of osteoarthritis usually develop slowly and worsen over time, commonly affecting areas such as the knees, spine, shoulders, neck, fingers, and ankles. The cases of Nguyet and Huy are also common among many young patients today – those whose jobs involve prolonged sitting and little physical activity.

Osteoarthritis not only causes inconvenience in daily life but can also easily lead to long-term consequences for the musculoskeletal system, such as prolonged pain, changes in joint structure, and even loss of mobility.

However, according to the doctor's observations, young people today are not "enthusiastic" about preventing osteoarthritis early on, and most will view pain as a symptom of stressful work. "Young people often relieve pain by seeking temporary therapy services or taking self-prescribed medication. Only when the pain becomes severe and affects their work and daily life do they begin to consider specialized treatment methods," Dr. Nam Anh shared.

Osteoarthritis is a manifestation of the aging process, which is an inevitable part of the body. After the age of 30, bones begin to enter the initial stage of aging, the production of collagen and joint fluid decreases, reducing elasticity and lubrication in the joints.

The rate of joint degeneration depends heavily on lifestyle and daily habits. Office workers, with their habit of sitting for long periods, slouching, crossing their legs, and bending their wrists while typing, negatively impact their joints and ligaments, leading to musculoskeletal pain, numbness, and premature degeneration.

In addition, lack of sun exposure, scheduling exercise for weekends, and consuming a lot of fast food and sugary drinks can also accelerate the onset of osteoarthritis.

A poor diet accelerates the process of joint degeneration.

Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh believes that the age of 30 is the "golden time" to prevent osteoarthritis. Applying measures to protect the musculoskeletal system at this age can "buy time," slowing down the degenerative process and minimizing serious consequences for the musculoskeletal system.

One of the first habits young people can start today is adjusting their diet. Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh encourages young people to make certain changes to their diets to provide the right amount of nutrients the body needs, preventing musculoskeletal degeneration as early as their 30s.

Many believe that calcium is the most important element, the primary mineral in bone formation. Therefore, focusing on calcium intake is sufficient to prevent musculoskeletal degeneration.

Dr. Nam Anh stated that this notion has many shortcomings. Calcium needs the support of other vitamins and minerals to be metabolized into the musculoskeletal system, thereby effectively preventing bone aging.

As a leading musculoskeletal care brand recommended by nutritionists, Anlene has researched and developed the MOVEPRO formula, containing all the essential nutrients, clinically tested and proven to help strengthen the musculoskeletal system and effectively support the prevention of bone aging.
