Thailand U17 (in blue) had a disappointing opening match. |
The match started badly for the Southeast Asian representatives. In the very first minute, from a cross from the left wing by Mirakhmadov, defender Soboonma awkwardly scored an own goal, giving Thailand an early lead. The quick goal left the Thai team on the defensive, while Tajikistan became increasingly confident as the game progressed.
In the 14th minute, Shodiev had a chance to double the lead but his shot was inaccurate. After being under pressure for a period, the U17 Thailand team gradually regained control of the game and created several notable attacking opportunities. However, the clearest chance in the first half was unfortunately missed when Jeyakom failed to capitalize on a favorable assist from Rungrueang.
In the second half, the game became more open. Tajikistan continued to maintain pressure, while Thailand also had some significant counter-attacks. In the 56th minute, Bobonazarov nearly scored from a set piece. Shortly after, La-Ongdee headed the ball against the crossbar, missing a clear opportunity to equalize.
The turning point of the match came in the 59th minute, when Soboonma received his second yellow card and was sent off. Playing with ten men, the U17 Thailand team was forced to defend deep and were unable to create any significant pressure. In the 90+7th minute, Hasanbekov scored the goal that sealed a 2-0 victory for Tajikistan, bringing to a close a forgettable match for the Southeast Asian representatives.
In the other match, U17 Saudi Arabia convincingly defeated Myanmar 4-0, thus sharing the top two positions in Group A with Tajikistan. With this defeat, U17 Thailand must achieve good results in the remaining matches if they do not want to be eliminated early and miss out on the World Cup.
