Vietnam U17 team identifies World Cup opponent, what does VFF say?

VFF leaders believe the Vietnam U17 team can achieve many positive results in their first appearance at the World Cup.

According to the draw results, Vietnam U17 (seeded group 4) is in Group G, facing Mali, Belgium, and New Zealand. Commenting on the draw, VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu said that Vietnam U17's group is highly competitive, with representatives from Africa, Europe, and Oceania – regions known for their physically strong football, high professional standards, and extensive international experience.

“Participating in the FIFA U17 World Cup is a very proud historical milestone for Vietnamese football. More importantly, this is a valuable opportunity for young players to continue to grow, gain experience, and assert their capabilities in the world's biggest football tournament for the U17 age group,” Vice President Tran Anh Tu emphasized.

The Vietnam U17 team will have the best possible preparation for the World Cup.

According to Mr. Tran Anh Tu, participating in the FIFA U17 World Cup 2026 is not only significant for the current generation of players but also motivates the next generations of Vietnamese U17 football to strive for world-class competition, thereby forming a solid foundation for the next generation of the national team in the future.

Vice President Tran Anh Tu also affirmed that the VFF considers the preparation for the Vietnam U17 team in the coming period to be of particular importance. Based on the professional plan already developed, the Vietnam U17 team will be given the best conditions for training, international competition, improving their professional skills, physical fitness, and competitive spirit before entering the tournament.

"The VFF believes that with the best preparation, the Vietnam U17 team will showcase a positive image of Vietnamese youth football at the U17 World Cup," Mr. Tú expressed.

The FIFA U17 World Cup Qatar 2026 will take place from November 19th to December 13th, featuring 48 teams divided into 12 groups. Teams will play a round-robin format. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage.
