On the evening of January 6th, the Vietnam U23 team defeated Jordan U23 2-0 in their opening match of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Finals held in Saudi Arabia.
Notably, coach Kim Sang Sik's team continued to showcase their strength in scoring from corner kicks, as evidenced by a goal from center-back Hieu Minh in the 41st minute.
Not to mention, Dinh Bac's opening goal from the penalty spot in the 15th minute also came from a corner kick, when a U23 Jordan player handled the ball inside the penalty area.

At the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship held in Indonesia in July, the Vietnam U23 team scored 8 goals, 4 of which came from corner kicks.
In the group stage, center-back Hieu Minh scored a brace in the opening match against U23 Laos, a 3-0 victory. Following that, center-back Ly Duc scored the opening goal in the 2-1 win against U23 Cambodia. In the final against U23 Indonesia, striker Cong Phuong scored the only goal for U23 Vietnam.
At the 2026 U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers in September in Viet Tri ( Phu Tho ), the Vietnam U23 team also scored one goal from a corner kick out of the four goals scored in three matches.

Specifically, striker Viktor Lê scored the winning goal with a header, securing a 2-0 victory against U23 Bangladesh after a header pass from center-back Lý Đức.
At the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand at the end of the year, coach Kim Sang Sik's team continued to score 2 goals from corner kicks, bringing their total to 9 goals across 4 matches.
Accordingly, center-back Hieu Minh scored the opening goal for Vietnam U22 in their 2-0 victory over Malaysia U22 in the final match of Group B.
In the final match, Vietnam U22 came from behind to beat Thailand U22 3-2, with the equalizer coming from an own goal by Waris. However, center-backs Hieu Minh and Ly Duc were the ones who created the pressure from the corner kick that led to the goal.

Dinh Bac, Van Khang, Quoc Viet, and Van Thuan are players who often take corner kicks for the Vietnam U22 and U23 teams, following pre-planned attack strategies.
From lofting the ball directly at the near or far post, to combining near the corner flag to stretch the opponent's defense before passing further into the penalty area.
Inside the box, Hieu Minh (1m84) and Ly Duc (1m82) not only directly score goals with headers but can also create chances, draw the opposing defense away, and create space for their teammates to shoot.
That's why the goals scored by the Vietnam U23 team from corner kicks are so diverse; even though opponents know the strength of Coach Kim's team in set pieces, they still can't neutralize them.
U23 Jordan is the latest "victim" and promises to be no last "victim" of U23 Vietnam at the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.

Not only the U22 or U23 teams, but the Vietnamese national team under coach Kim Sang Sik also frequently scores goals from corner kicks.
In the ASEAN Cup 2024, the Vietnamese national team scored 3 goals thanks to left-back Nguyen Van Vi (in the 4-1 win against Laos), midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan (in the 1-1 draw against the Philippines), and Nguyen Xuan Son (in the 2-0 win against Singapore in the first leg of the semi-final).
In the final qualifying round for the 2027 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese national team scored 3 goals thanks to Van Vi (winning 5-0 against Laos), Pham Xuan Manh (winning 3-1 against Nepal in the first leg), and Hieu Minh (winning 1-0 against Nepal in the second leg).
