Previously, on November 24th, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang launched her book, "A Unified System Fitness Design " (USFD).
However, shortly afterward, Oliver Napila Gomez (a Filipino) - co-author of the book - sent an email to UMT University and posted a series of accusations on social media claiming: "I am the sole author of the book USFD."
Temporarily suspended from work due to numerous complaints received by the school.
According to the decision, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang has been temporarily suspended from her job and position for 15 days, starting from January 7th to January 21st.
The reason for the temporary suspension, according to UMT University, is that they have received numerous complaints from individuals regarding Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang, and this information is affecting the university's reputation. Therefore, the university needs to clarify the related issues.
According to the school, during the suspension period, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang was temporarily absent from school and prohibited from contacting students/parents, while also receiving an advance on her salary as stipulated by the Labor Code.
At the same time, the school requires Ms. Giang to maintain continuous communication with the school (via her personal phone number and email), and to be present when summoned by the school.
Ms. Giang is responsible for handing over her duties to the secretary of the Institute of Sports Science and Management before taking a temporary leave of absence.
Transfer the subject of sports management to the business department.
Previously, on December 16, 2024, the Rector of UMT University issued a decision to transfer the Department of Sports Management from the Institute of Sports Science and Management to the Faculty of Business.
The Head of the Business Department is tasked with drafting regulations outlining the functions, duties, powers, and organizational structure of the unit, based on the university's development orientation and strategy, and submitting them to the Rector for review and promulgation.
Simultaneously, a decision was issued regarding the assignment of duties to members of the UMT School's Board of Directors, assigning Mr. Le Van Nam - the school's vice principal - to be in charge of the Institute of Sports Science and Management.
The school also requires Ms. Nguyen Tra Giang to hand over all information, files, and documents (paper copies/soft files on the computer) related to the Physical Education and Sports Management department to Dr. Le Thi Ngoc Tu - Head of the Business Faculty - and the personnel designated by Dr. Tu by 5:30 PM on January 6th at the latest.
Ms. Giang is requested to follow the instructions of the school administration and coordinate with the human resources and administration department to adjust the functions and responsibilities of the Institute of Sports Science and Management as per the aforementioned decision.
Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang suggested reconsidering the decision to suspend the suspension.
On the evening of January 6th, Ms. Giang confirmed that she had just received an email containing the school principal's decision to temporarily suspend her from her job and position. She also stated that she had responded to the school.
"In the spirit of goodwill, I will first cooperate with the school's internal operations. However, I request that the school's leadership reconsider the aforementioned decision because the temporary suspension of me in this case is not in accordance with the current Labor Code."
According to current regulations, employers can only suspend an employee from work in cases of "violation of labor regulations," which I did not violate. Regarding the reason given by the school for suspension, I find it unclear and lacking objectivity.
"I request that the leadership reconsider withdrawing the suspension decision against me, and I also request that the school arrange a meeting to definitively resolve this issue," Ms. Giang said.
'The school is complying with the regulations of the Labor Code.'
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online about the decision, a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology affirmed: "The suspension of Ms. Giang is being carried out by the university in accordance with the current Labor Code. If Ms. Giang has any questions or complaints, she is kindly requested to comply with the provisions of the Labor Code and its implementing guidelines."
The transfer of the Department of Sports Management to the Faculty of Business is within the authority of the school board and has been approved by the school board. Regarding student training, the school still ensures that the curriculum and training roadmap are followed correctly.
This temporary suspension is also to give the school time to verify some information. Once we have accurate results, we will inform your newspaper."
