The workshop is a forum for experts and scientists from the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Hanoi National University, the Academy of Politics of the Ministry of National Defense , the Communist Magazine, etc. to exchange and discuss new trends in the application of artificial intelligence in social sciences and humanities research based on the orientation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.
The workshop also contributes to promoting exchanges and cooperation between scientists inside and outside the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; expanding opportunities for cooperation in scientific research between organizations, research units, and training units in the field of social sciences and humanities nationwide.

Dr. Phan Chi Hieu, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, spoke at the conference. |
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Phan Chi Hieu, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, emphasized: “Artificial intelligence is becoming one of the key technological breakthroughs of the era; strongly impacting all aspects and areas of economic and social life. For social sciences and humanities, artificial intelligence is opening up new research directions, providing new research methods and tools. From large-scale social data analysis, natural language extraction and processing, to behavioral modeling and social trend forecasting, artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the way, approach, explain and reflect social phenomena. Applications that have become increasingly familiar in life such as virtual assistants, intelligent suggestion systems from AI can become effective support tools for scientists in the research process”.
In addition to the great potential, Dr. Phan Chi Hieu also stated that the application of artificial intelligence poses many challenges such as the ability to access new technology, analytical skills, programming, and application exploitation for researchers; the problem of exploiting and using big data (AI only works effectively when there is big data that is standardized and well structured, while social sciences and humanities often use qualitative data that is difficult to digitize and standardize); potential risks of bias due to algorithms and training data; ethical issues and privacy in processing social data; issues of academic integrity, intellectual property rights in research, publication of scientific results through applications from AI; issues of ensuring criticality, verification and scientific responsibility in research using AI;…”
The presentations of experts at the workshop focused on key issues such as: overview of AI and modern applications in social sciences and humanities research; current status of AI application in Vietnam; opportunities that AI opens up for social sciences and humanities in Vietnam; AI policy and ethics framework for social sciences and humanities research; challenges in data and methods: taking advantage of open science and open data trends; training and human resource development; future research orientations and international connections: basic and applied research directions suitable for the current practical context in Vietnam; interdisciplinary research directions to apply AI; dialectical relationships between elements such as methods, data, tools, etc. in social sciences and humanities research in the development of AI; application of AI in specific research fields: philosophy , economics, sociology, psychology , anthropology, history, archaeology, law, etc.
