This year, the yield of fresh lychees is higher than previous years, so since mid-June, many households in Thanh Ha commune (merged from Thanh Son, Thanh Tan, Thanh Ha town and part of the old Thanh Quang commune) have focused on drying lychees, increasing the value of lychees. The whole commune has about 10 households drying lychees using traditional methods, manually using brick kilns, using charcoal for drying.
Each quintal of fresh lychee can yield about 30 kg of dried lychee, each batch takes 3-5 days to dry. Dried lychee can be preserved and sold all year round at a price of 80,000 - 100,000 VND/kg (last year there was no dried lychee due to low fresh lychee output). Each kilogram of dried lychee is on average 3 times more expensive than fresh lychee, and is consumed strongly in the Southern and Chinese markets.
