On the morning of July 4, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Pham Xuan Phu - principal of Nam Dan 2 High School, Nghe An province - provided more information about the incident where the school had just announced the second round of admission scores for grade 10.

Candidates only need 2.5 points/3 subjects (including priority and incentive points if any) to be admitted.

When reading this information, on social networking sites, some opinions said that with a score of 2.5 points to be admitted to grade 10, "there is no need to study, no need to take exams".

Mr. Phu confirmed that the school's second round admission benchmark score was 2.5 points, 7 points lower than the first round admission benchmark score.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Nam Dan 2 High School was assigned by the Nghe An Departmentof Education and Training to enroll 10 classes with 450 students. However, when the application deadline expired, the school only had 419 applications to take the entrance exam, so the department adjusted the enrollment quota to 400.

After the 10th grade entrance exam, because students were allowed to change their wishes, the number of applications to the school increased to 442 and the school increased the quota again to 450 students.

"After the first round of enrollment, there was still a shortage of enrollment quotas, so the school announced additional enrollment. Because there were not many applications left, according to enrollment regulations, candidates who did not violate exam regulations and did not have a failing score will have their scores taken from top to bottom, and any student who was accepted will be accepted until the enrollment quota is met," Mr. Phu explained.

According to Mr. Phu, the school's admissions council initially agreed on a minimum score of 6.25 points in the second round of admissions. However, there is still a shortage of quotas.

With a score of 2.5 points, there are currently 31 candidates eligible for admission, of which only one student has a score of 2.5 points and the school is still short of 12 students compared to the assigned quota.

According to statistics, among more than 400 students entering Nam Dan 2 High School this year, the number of students with an average score of 5 points per subject accounts for about 52% of the school's students. The school's average score is 15.03 points. The top student in the entrance exam is a student from Khanh Son Secondary School with 27.75 points.

Mr. Phu added that in addition to the 2024-2025 school year, the school's admission score was exceptionally high at 13.2 points when for the first time the school had 720 students registered for the exam. In previous years, the school's admission score was only 7-9 points and was in the bottom group of the province.

"Teachers must try to help and tutor weak students so that they can strive harder in their studies," Mr. Phu shared.

After students registered for the 10th grade entrance exam, the whole province had 11 public schools with the number of registered students lower than the quota.

According to the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, the low benchmark score was also predicted in this year's enrollment season when many schools in the province, including many top schools, also had their benchmark scores lowered by 3-4 points compared to the 2024-2025 school year.

The reason is that this year the number of students in the whole province has decreased by nearly 5,000 students. Meanwhile, the department still maintains the enrollment quota for grade 10 as in previous years to avoid disrupting the team, affecting the scale of schools and increasing the opportunities for students to enter public grade 10.

Highest standard score for entering grade 10 in Nghe An: 24.25 points

In the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, Nghe An candidates will take three subjects: math, literature and foreign language (English) on June 3 and 4. This year, Nghe An province has more than 39,000 candidates registering to take the exam at 69 public schools across the province.

Among the announced schools, Huynh Thuc Khang High School (formerly Vinh city) has the highest first round benchmark score in the province with 24.25 points.
