YEN BAI-In March, Lung Cung village, the hawthorn capital of Mu Cang Chai district, is in full bloom, dyeing the entire mountainous area white.
In early March, some villages in the northern mountains enter hawthorn flower season. According to the National Tourism Administration, Lung Cung village, located at the foot of Lung Cung peak (3 m), the highest peak in the Hoang Lien Son range, is considered the "capital of medlar trees" of Mu Cang Chai district. Lung Cung concentrates many perennial trees among the more than 2.913 trees planted in Mu Cang Chai and produces delicious and famous fruits.
Knowing about the hawthorn flower season in Lung Cung village through the words of a local porter, Mr. Nguyen Trong Cung, Thai Binh, currently working in tourism, came here on March 9.
Mr. Cung traveled by motorbike for more than 2 hours over a distance of about 30 km, from Tu Le commune, Van Chan district. The road is quite difficult to travel, with many bumps, visitors can ride a motorbike alone if the steering wheel is steady or hire a local motorbike taxi to take them there.
By the time Mr. Cung arrived at the village, the ancient hawthorn trees scattered throughout the village and on the hillsides were at their most beautiful.
In addition to growing for fruit, hawthorn trees are also identified as multi-purpose protective forest trees in the Mu Cang Chai highland, according to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration.
When the medlar flower in Lung Cung blooms, you can clearly see its 5 round, ivory-white petals, and the pistil tip gradually turns from yellow to earthy brown until it withers. Each flower season lasts about 20 - 30 days. This year, the flower season in Lung Cung lasts until nearly the end of March.
Mr. Cung was impressed with Lung Cung by the wild, majestic and peaceful mountain scenery.
Located below the famous Lung Cung peak, Lung Cung village has no homestays or tourism services, and no travel company to take tourists to the village. Thanks to that, Mr. Cung can record wild and peaceful scenes during hawthorn flower season.
If you want to see hawthorn flowers here, Mr. Cung advises tourists to take advantage of the time to come to the village this weekend, because the flowers are about to wither. After the season of thick plum blossoms, plum blossoms, peach blossoms, "white hawthorn flowers are like the last greeting of spring in Mu Cang Chai before the change of seasons," Mr. Cung said.
