Jennifer Lopez's 'Revenge Dress'

Jennifer Lopez looked confident, even a bit arrogant, in a design that showed off her curves at the Toronto International Film Festival.

According to Page Six , all eyes were on Jennifer Lopez when she appeared on the red carpet of the Toronto International Film Festival (USA) in a disco-inspired dress. The backless design by designer Tamara Ralph had a bold cut-out, connected by large bows.

Daily Mail and Cosmopolitan both called this the "revenge dress" because JLo looked extremely confident, somewhat arrogant, wearing a design that showed off her body's advantages after filing for divorce from Ben Affleck.

The concept of the "revenge dress" became popular after the late Princess Diana wore a tight, off-the-shoulder black silk dress to a 1994 dinner at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens. Diana is said to have deliberately worn the dress to "get revenge" after her husband, Charles, then the Prince of Wales, admitted to having an affair.

"Now, revenge dresses have become a strong statement of confidence after a breakup for female stars," said Elle .

The Toronto International Film Festival saw JLo's first public appearance since filing for divorce on August 20. Although Affleck is a producer on Lopez's film, Unstoppable , he was absent. At the event, Lopez did not shy away from interacting with Affleck's close friend Matt Damon. They appeared together in a few group photos, but it is unclear if they had any private interactions outside of the event.

Meanwhile, Affleck was seen walking around Los Angeles on the same day.

People sources revealed that Lopez and Affleck had been having many conflicts since the beginning of the year, and they separated on April 26. They spent many months thinking about their marriage, and finally came to a breakup.

"Jennifer can't wait any longer. She's tried so hard to make things work, but it's heartbreaking. The kids are her top priority right now," the source said. Another friend of the couple said: "She's very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn't shown any signs that he wants to continue the marriage."
