Customers of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) began to familiarize themselves with modern banking services in 2018, when SMS messaging was implemented to verify loan and deposit balances. In 2019, SMS notifications of overdue debts were further implemented, and a service notifying customers of account balance changes was piloted. Taking another step to better serve customers, in March 2023, VBSP launched the VBSP SmartBanking application. This application has positively impacted millions of customers, helping the poor, people in remote areas, and ethnic minority communities access banking services more quickly and comprehensively.

As a mountainous province in the North with a large geographical area, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) branch in Lang Son province has actively implemented digital banking applications in recent years, bringing practical products and services to the people, especially those in ethnic minority areas.
VBSP SmartBanking is a digital banking service of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) that allows customers to perform convenient services such as: paying interest, checking transactions; customers borrowing under the social housing loan program can have their monthly interest deducted directly through the application… At the same time, the application has also integrated many services such as payments, money transfers, utility bill payments, tuition fee payments... creating a comprehensive experience for customers.
According to Mr. Phan Anh Thang, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) branch in Lang Son, to improve service quality and provide poor households and policy beneficiaries with more opportunities to experience modern digital banking services, the provincial VBSP branch has gradually applied digitalization to its credit operations. At the same time, it has directed VBSP transaction offices to accelerate the deployment of applications in policy credit management, helping the bank to better manage and implement policy credit activities in the area.
In Lang Son province, there are currently 1,520 customers using the VBSP Smart Banking application, and 1,080 customers with outstanding loans conducting transactions through the application. By September 30, 2025, the total outstanding loans of policy credit programs reached VND 5,526,706 million, an increase of VND 434,467 million compared to the beginning of the year, representing a growth rate of 8.5%. Currently, 2,444 people have installed and used the policy credit management application, including 2,044 heads of savings and loan groups who are proficient in using the application, achieving a 100% rate.

Sharing her thoughts on the benefits of the VBSP SmartBanking service, Ms. Doi Thi Bac, Head of the Savings and Loan Group in Block 27, Ky Lua Ward, said: "Currently, our group has 60 members with outstanding loans exceeding 8 billion VND. Previously, we often worked with many types of documents, having to store, compile, and access policies in paper form. Now, with just a mobile phone and the application installed, we can update a lot of relevant information. Thanks to this, we can manage members, loan balances, interest payments, savings deposit balances, and provide information to members anywhere, anytime."
Mr. Duong Trung Kien, Deputy Director of the Trang Dinh Branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP), said: To improve service quality and provide customers with more opportunities to experience modern digital banking services, the branch has promoted the application of information technology and digital transformation in policy credit activities through policy credit management applications and VBSP SmartBanking, helping customers make flexible payments, secure information, save costs, and reduce transaction time.
The deployment of the VBSP SmartBanking application in the province not only helps improve service quality and diversify products and services, but also helps people, especially poor households and policy beneficiaries in remote and particularly disadvantaged areas, gradually access cashless payment services. This contributes to achieving the digital transformation goals of the banking sector.
With the efforts of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP), digital transformation will help the poor and policy beneficiaries access banking services on mobile phones, bringing outstanding conveniences and enhancing the experience for customers in rural areas.
