Returning to the village, I encountered Western tourists at the entrance.
Van Lam village, Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district ( Ninh Binh province) is an ancient village over 700 years old. Located within the famous Tam Coc - Bich Dong tourist area in Ninh Binh. Photo: Dinh Minh Since ancient times, Van Lam has been famous for its embroidery craft, passed down by Mrs. Tran Thi Dung (wife of Grand Tutor Tran Thu Do). Before Trang An was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the villagers mainly lived by rice farming and embroidery. When tourism arrived in this peaceful countryside, the people began to shift to service industries because they offered higher incomes. Photo: Dinh Minh After years of developing tourism, the rural area of Van Lam has begun to be nicknamed the "Western Quarter" of Ninh Binh because you encounter foreign tourists almost everywhere you go, no matter where you are in your house. Photo: Dinh Minh Mr. Dinh Anh Toi, Vice Chairman of the Ninh Hai Commune People's Committee, said: On average, the commune welcomes about 1,000 domestic and international tourists daily. Among them, the homestay business model is very developed in Van Lam village, creating community livelihoods and bringing high income to the people. Photo: Dinh Minh According to Mr. Toi, Van Lam village currently has 1,350 households with 4,200 inhabitants, accounting for 60% of the commune's population. Recognizing the development of tourism, the people have gradually shifted from embroidery and agriculture to rowing boats, transporting tourists, and running accommodation and food services, achieving an average per capita income of 80-85 million VND/person/year. Photo: Dinh Minh From hotels and homestays to restaurants and eateries in Van Lam village, most establishments cater primarily to foreign tourists, hence the English signs everywhere. Even the roadside beverage stalls have signs in English. Photo: Dinh Minh On weekends, this village is as bustling as a famous tourist town abroad. Photo: Dinh Minh Every afternoon, tourists from Ninh Binh's tourist areas and attractions flock to 'Van Lam Western Street' for dinner, entertainment, and recreation. Photo: Dinh Minh Foreign tourists visiting Van Lam are very diverse, including people from Europe, Asia, Africa, and more. With the hot weather in Vietnam, tourists often wear short-sleeved shirts and carry fans to cope with the heat. This area is also the Tam Coc boat dock, the center of the famous Tam Coc - Bich Dong tourist complex within the Trang An World Heritage site. Photo: Dinh Minh
