Let's go back to the sea!

My high school friends invited me on a backpacking trip, but they insisted we go to the beach! I racked my brain, unsure of a quiet and private spot… I called Chien, a local in Phan Ri Cua commune, because he knew of many beautiful, unspoiled beaches. Hearing my suggestion, Chien agreed to be my "guide" and promised to take me to a place that, as the locals jokingly say, would be absolutely stunning.

We arrived just as the sun was beginning to set and a cool sea breeze was blowing.

As scheduled, we departed at 3 PM from Phan Rí Cửa commune, following National Highway 1A northward. After more than an hour, we reached Vĩnh Tân commune in Lâm Đồng province, bordering Cà Ná (now Khánh Hòa province), a place locals call Mũi Đá Chẹt (Da Chẹt Cape). Chiến had tents ready for us to sleep overnight on the beach, and had prepared everything for us quite thoughtfully, from food and drinks to small items necessary for an outdoor picnic. We only needed to bring a few personal items and set off. After passing Vĩnh Hảo restaurant, Chiến led us along a trail to the sea. Looking into the distance, the crescent-shaped Đá Chẹt mountain range hugged National Highway 1A for about 4 km.

Standing on the rocky mountain overlooking the east, you'll see the vast ocean with Cu Lao Cau island resembling a battleship sailing in the open sea. Behind us were towering mountains, and in front of us was the boundless ocean. The sea here is a deep blue, interspersed with large and small rock formations piled on top of each other, jutting out into the water like a group of seals playing underwater. Standing on these rock formations and looking down, you can clearly see clusters of coral growing close together, incredibly beautiful. We arrived when the sun was gradually softening, and the sea breeze was refreshing, a stark contrast to the stifling, hot atmosphere of the city during the summer. We were surprised to find the beach here quite pristine and incredibly clean, and our group took advantage of the opportunity to take pictures before the sun set.

The peaceful scenery helped us temporarily set aside the stresses of life.

We were born by the sea, yet we are still captivated by the enchanting beauty of this place. Sitting and watching the waves crash against the rocks, I feel completely at ease after the pressures of work and life. As evening falls, the pinkish-gray clouds drift close to the foot of the mountains and the horizon, creating a scene as beautiful as something out of a fairy tale. The earth and sky seem to merge, offering us the most tranquil and enchanting moments. We sat watching the sunset, without a word spoken, but the gentle, cool sunlight of the late afternoon seemed to help us shed all the worries of life.

As the sun set behind the distant horizon, we pitched our tents, built a campfire, grilled chicken and seafood we'd brought along, and sipped tea amidst the breezy sea, reminiscing about our beautiful school days. Sitting by the flickering firelight, I looked at my friends of over 20 years, their faces marked with wrinkles, but we shared a love for the sea, warm hearts, and a strong friendship, despite our different lives.

Leaving behind the hustle and bustle, a nighttime experience by the sea is truly unforgettable.

Chiến said: “I heard that the local government has chosen this area for tourism development planning. Later, the Đá Chẹt road will be an ideal place for tourists to rest, relax, and enjoy the picturesque scenery. Therefore, in recent years, many tourism projects have gradually appeared on this ‘mural road,’ aiming to provide tourists with quality tourism products and services and a unique experience.” Chiến added: “I’m happy for any place with tourism potential because the lives of the people there will change and they will benefit, but my biggest concern is the issue of marine environmental hygiene, as many people lack awareness when traveling.” We understand Chiến’s concerns, as most coastal areas share the same problem of being surrounded by trash…

We talked, then fell silent, letting the soothing embrace of the sea's stillness heal our wounds... In the darkness of the night, we could only hear the waves crashing against the shore, letting go of everything to listen, to feel, and allowing the sea to wash away our daily worries...

The next morning we packed up and left, restoring peace to the rocks, returning the cleanliness, pristine nature, and tranquility of the sea. There, only the gentle murmur of the waves remained, and the sounds of our lively laughter gradually faded into the distance. If you've never spent a night by the sea, you absolutely must try it, to experience for yourself the stillness of time and space in the vast ocean.
