The Guardian reported that the French President's Office said on October 6 that President Emmanuel Macron had accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, plunging the country into a deeper political deadlock.

According to Politico, the decision to resign by Mr. Lecornu, who managed to win the support of many parties in a deeply divided Congress , came just about 12 hours after the new cabinet was announced.
Mr Lecornu was scheduled to chair the first session on the afternoon of October 6. However, opposition parties and some of Mr Macron's minority coalition partners have reacted angrily to the new cabinet, as many ministers have worked in the previous government or held senior positions.
Mr. Lecornu, 39, is a former defense minister and a longtime ally of President Macron.
He was appointed as France's new prime minister on September 9, 2025, facing the daunting task of passing a lean budget to rein in France's deficit and reassure financial markets that the eurozone's second-largest economy has not yet become unmanageable.
