Racing Club (Argentina) must win against Caracas FC (Venezuela) to keep their hopes of progressing in the Copa Sudamericana alive.
The effort helped the Argentinian team take a 2-1 lead until the 73rd minute at their home stadium, El Cilindro, and everything seemed to be under control.
Then, just one minute later, goalkeeper Matías Tagliamonte made a move that looked like a comedy act, leaving the home fans utterly bewildered.
After Jesus Quintero's header, goalkeeper Tagliamonte made a brilliant save. But immediately after that seemingly commendable save, he fumbled the ball as if he were... playing basketball.
This caused the ball to hit the crossbar twice before falling perfectly for Irving Gudino to finish from close range, leveling the score at 2-2 for the visiting Caracas FC.
"This is one of the most ridiculous goals conceded in the history of world football," commented Marca.
Racing Club's clumsiness, which led to their tragedy, didn't end there. Just five minutes later, striker Adrian Martinez was presented with a golden opportunity in front of Caracas FC's virtually empty goal. But instead of scoring to rescue his team, he fumbled the ball and missed in an unbelievable manner.
From having a clear path to the next round, Racing Club turned the match into a "showcase" of mistakes. A goalkeeper gifted a goal to the opponent, a striker missed an unbelievable scoring opportunity, and the price they paid was their exit from the Copa Sudamericana.
"Football fans will have a good laugh watching these two 'comedic' moments from Racing Club players in the Copa Sudamericana," the Spanish newspaper concluded.
