Vietnam has not recorded any cases of Chikungunya.

According to the Department of Disease Prevention, Ministry of Health , Chikungunya is not a new disease, it was discovered in the 1950s, with many outbreaks in tropical regions in recent decades.

The disease is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes - the same type of mosquito that causes dengue fever. This mosquito mainly bites during the day, with peak activity in the early morning and late afternoon.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health recommends that people continue to take disease prevention measures according to instructions and regularly update information from official sources.

The most effective and economical way to prevent Chikungunya is similar to dengue fever, which is to kill mosquito larvae, eliminate mosquito breeding sites, sleep under mosquito nets, and avoid mosquito bites.

How to prevent disease

The Ministry of Health also recommends that people should not be subjective but also not panic. Symptoms of the disease usually appear 3-7 days after being bitten by a mosquito, typically a high fever of over 39 degrees Celsius, bilateral and symmetrical polyarthritis, which can be severe and debilitating. Other symptoms include headache, muscle pain, arthritis, conjunctivitis, nausea, vomiting or maculopapular rash.

Most patients recover within a week, but joint pain can last for months. The disease can leave serious complications such as cranial nerve palsy and meningitis.

Previously, on July 22, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned about the rapid spread of Chikungunya, with large outbreaks in the Indian Ocean islands and spreading to some areas in Africa, South Asia, and Europe.

To prevent Chikungunya, the Department of Disease Control recommends that people cover water containers to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. Kill larvae and pupae weekly by putting fish in large water containers; wash medium and small containers, turn over containers that do not contain water; change the water in vases and flower pots; add salt, oil or larvicidal chemicals to bowls of water placed under cupboards.

Eliminate waste materials, natural water sources such as bottles, jars, coconut shells, pieces of jars, old tires, etc. Sleep under mosquito nets, wear long clothes to avoid mosquito bites during the day. Actively cooperate with the health sector in spraying chemicals to prevent and control epidemics.

When you have a fever, go to a medical facility immediately for examination and treatment advice. Do not self-treat at home.
