Some people choose to drink coffee at noon to avoid drowsiness after meals. Meanwhile, people who need to work or study at night often turn to evening coffee as an "assistant" to help them stay awake until late at night.
However, new research published in the scientific journal iScience has warned that there is a point at which consuming coffee can make you "regret it", according to medical news site Medical Express.
Drinking coffee at night may affect your ability to control your behavior.

The study, conducted by scientists at the University of Texas at El Paso (USA), used fruit flies - a biological model commonly used to study complex behavior due to genetic and neurological similarities with humans.
In the experiment, the authors added caffeine to the flies’ diets at different doses, at specific times of day or night. They then assessed the flies’ behavior by testing their ability to inhibit movement when exposed to a strong wind current—a natural form of aversive stimulus.
The results found that evening coffee intake can affect the ability to control behavior, especially increasing the impulsivity of fruit flies, according to Medical Express.
Under normal conditions, flies stop moving when exposed to strong winds, the researchers explain. But in the study, flies that consumed caffeine at night exhibited impulsive behaviors such as reckless flying despite these adverse conditions.
In contrast, flies consuming caffeine during the day did not exhibit risk-taking flight behavior.
According to the study authors, this finding may have implications for people who work night shifts or who regularly consume coffee at night to stay alert, as caffeine intake at night may affect the ability to control behavior.
In addition, a recent study conducted by the University of Montreal (Canada), published in the journal Communications Biology , also showed that drinking coffee 1-3 hours before going to bed will increase brain signals, reflecting more active neural activity, even during sleep.
