Lang Son Geopark was evaluated and voted on by the Global Geoparks Council to be recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

On the afternoon of September 8th, leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lang Son province informed that at 3:30 PM on the same day, Geopark Lang Son has been assessed and voted on by the Global Geopark Council to be recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Previously, in 2023, the People's Committee of Lang Son province, in coordination with the Vietnam National UNESCO Committee (Ministry of Foreign Affairs ), completed the dossier to propose Lang Son Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
The park was then submitted to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
According to the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lang Son province, the recognition of Lang Son Geopark helps the province focus resources on managing, preserving, and promoting the value of geological heritage, cultural, historical, archaeological heritage, biodiversity, as well as the province's unique scenic spots.
It is expected that in 2025, Lang Son Geopark will receive UNESCO Global Geopark recognition in Chile.
The Lang Son Geopark covers eight districts and cities: Bac Son, Chi Lang, Huu Lung, Loc Binh, Van Quan, and Lang Son city (along with parts of Binh Gia and Cao Loc districts).
Total area over 4,800 km² With a population of nearly 627,000 people, it accounts for approximately 58% of the province's area and 78% of its population.
In 2021, Lang Son Geopark was established by the People's Committee of Lang Son province with 38 attractions belonging to 4 tourist routes.
