Honoring young mathematical talents.

(NLĐO) - 22 provinces and cities have students who won prizes at the Asian Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) in the 2025-2026 school year.

On May 24th, the awards ceremony for the National Final Round of the Asian Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) for the 2025-2026 academic year took place at the Vietnam Youth Academy in Hanoi .

The organizing committee presented awards to the contestants who won the AIMO 2026 National Championship Cup.

This year's Final Round took place over two days, May 23rd and 24th, bringing together nearly 1,300 outstanding students from grades 2 to 12, selected from 11,670 candidates nationwide. The competition was jointly organized by Tien Phong Newspaper and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, under the direction of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

The AIMO exam is conducted entirely in English, testing not only mathematical ability but also assessing students' logical thinking, analytical skills, and foreign language proficiency. Candidates take the exam in person at the testing center located at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

In the final round, 22 provinces and cities had students winning awards, with Hanoi leading absolutely with an overwhelming number of contestants in all grade levels and medal categories. Thanh Hoa ranked second in total awards, particularly strong in the junior high school category. The Organizing Committee awarded more than 700 medals and 9 national championship trophies to the most outstanding students from each grade level.

The competition is an important preparatory step to select outstanding individuals to represent Vietnam at the AIMO 2026 International Finals, scheduled to be held in Hanoi from August 1-5, 2026.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Tien - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee - said that this year's AIMO National Finals recorded an impressive scale with nearly 1,300 outstanding contestants, carefully selected from more than 11,600 contestants nationwide.

According to journalist Nguyen Ngoc Tien, in this new stage of development, the country needs a young generation with knowledge, independent thinking, problem-solving skills, foreign language proficiency, the courage to integrate, and a desire to contribute. Mathematics is a crucial foundation for developing these capabilities. Behind artificial intelligence, big data, semiconductor technology, robotics, digital finance, and many cutting-edge fields of the future, there is the imprint of mathematical thinking.

Therefore, bringing students to internationally standardized English-language mathematics competitions is not just about organizing a contest, but also about preparing them for the future; it's a way to sow the first seeds for high-quality human resources and nurture the belief that Vietnamese students can absolutely stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers in the region and around the world.

The Asia International Mathematical Olympiad is an international mathematics competition initiated by the Asian Mathematical Olympiad Association in 2012.

After more than a decade of development, AIMO has become one of the most prestigious mathematics competitions in the Asian region and has expanded its influence to many countries and territories.

Each year, AIMO attracts approximately 150,000 students from over 20 countries and territories, including China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, India, Brazil, Singapore, Turkey, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
