Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin announced that his forces had captured Bakhmut on May 20th and that his fighters would withdraw to allow regular Russian troops to enter and take over the city.

However, on May 23, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar stated that fighting had subsided in the strategic city of Bakhmut, but Ukrainian forces still maintained control over "the southwestern suburbs of the city in the Litak district."

Also on May 25th, Ukrainian officials announced that Russian forces had carried out drone attacks on the capital Kyiv overnight, lasting for three hours.

According to the head of Kyiv's military administration, Serhiy Popko, it was a "large-scale attack," but Ukrainian air defense systems "destroyed all detected airborne targets moving toward the capital."

Meanwhile, in the Crimean Peninsula, Chief of Administration Sergei Aksyonov also announced that air defenses had shot down six UAVs overnight, adding that "there were no casualties."

In another development on the same day, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it had arrested two Ukrainians allegedly planning attacks on nuclear power plants in the country.

Russian news agencies, citing a statement from the FSB, said: "A sabotage group belonging to Ukraine's foreign intelligence agency... attempted to blow up about 30 power lines of nuclear power plants in Leningrad and Kaliningrad" in early May with the aim of disrupting the operation of these plants.
