Manager Nuno Santo declined to comment on his future at West Ham. |
On the night of May 24th, West Ham's victory against Leeds in the 38th round of the Premier League was not enough to save them, as Tottenham secured points against Everton, allowing them to decide their own fate in the relegation battle.
"The Hammers" were relegated to the Championship despite reaching 39 points, a position that had usually been safe in many previous seasons.
After the match, coach Nuno Espirito Santo apologized to the fans but did not confirm whether he would continue to lead the team next season.
The Portuguese strategist signed a three-year contract with West Ham in September 2025, but both sides included a clause allowing for a departure without significant compensation.
“This is not the time to talk about me,” Nuno stated, “West Ham needs to find a way back to the Premier League. The important thing now is to understand the sadness and disappointment of the fans.”
The 52-year-old manager significantly improved West Ham after replacing Graham Potter mid-season. However, a series of inconsistent performances at the start of the season meant the club couldn't escape the relegation zone at the crucial moment.
With the club facing losses exceeding £104 million, West Ham also faces the risk of losing several key players such as Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes, and Crysencio Summerville during the summer transfer window.
Captain Bowen also declined to comment on the possibility of leaving the club, stating that it was not the right time to discuss his personal future.
"It would be disrespectful to talk about that now," Bowen shared, "I want West Ham to be in the Premier League. This club means a lot to me and what I'm thinking about right now is helping the team get back on track."
Nuno's future, as well as West Ham's rebuilding plans, will likely only become clear after the disappointment of this disastrous season subsides.
