The statement was issued as the WHO and global health agencies assisted in bringing passengers still on board the ship back to their home countries starting on May 10th.

According to Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO's Director of Epidemic Preparedness and Response, no one on board currently has any symptoms of Hanta virus infection, but all need to be closely monitored and supervised.

The MV Hondius, carrying over 150 passengers and crew, docked in Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands of Spain, on May 10th.

Here, passengers are taken to a completely isolated and sealed area, then board supervised vehicles to travel to a separate area at the local airport for their return to their home country.

WHO is urging the countries involved to continue coordinating public health efforts, including contact tracing, case management, infection prevention, and transparent communication.
