Benarroch added that Swift's fans shared real images of the singer on X after the fake photos started appearing on the social media platform. They also tried to report the accounts that were spreading the deepfake images.
Following X's decision to block all searches for Taylor Swift, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella weighed in on the flood of AI-generated images of the singer in an interview with NBC. He argued that people need to take action to create a safe online world , so companies need to accelerate such actions.
Notably, a report from 404Media claimed that the deepfake images of Taylor Swift circulating on X were created in part by a group using Microsoft Designer—an AI-based image creation tool. Microsoft told NBC that its own investigation into the situation is now underway and added that it has taken steps to enhance text filtering prompts and address the misuse of the company's services in the incident.
