(HBĐT) - In recent years, Mai Hich commune (Mai Chau district) has been an ideal and attractive destination for domestic and international tourists. Here, visitors can not only immerse themselves in the fresh air and picturesque scenery but also enjoy unique cultural features, from cuisine and clothing to the daily life of the local people.
Homestay Minh Thơ, located in Hịch 2 hamlet, Mai Hịch commune (Mai Châu district), is an ideal stopover for tourists.
The villages of Hich 1, Hich 2, Hai Son, etc., are known to tourists for their picturesque scenery, traditional stilt houses, and numerous homestay businesses. Besides accommodation and food services, activities such as hiking, mountain climbing, cave exploration, cycling around mountain passes, boating, and wading in streams to catch fish offer many interesting experiences for visitors. Furthermore, the rustic, flavorful dishes cooked over traditional stilt house fires, the taste of local rice wine, and the traditional dances of Thai girls leave an unforgettable impression on tourists. Experiential activities and labor alongside the locals, such as planting corn, raising chickens, and fishing, create a simple and intimate rural atmosphere.
Visiting Minh Tho homestay in Hich 2 hamlet, we felt the simple, rustic yet refined charm of a Thai ethnic minority home. Mr. Ha Cong Minh, owner of Minh Tho homestay, said: "I have been involved in community tourism since 2012, promoting the distinctive cultural values of the Thai ethnic group such as staff attire, interior design, and traditional dishes… Besides that, I focus on ensuring environmental hygiene, food safety, and fire prevention… Convenient amenities for guests such as lighting, wifi, hot and cold showers, and digital television so that tourists with young children do not experience any inconvenience compared to their daily lives. I also collaborate with other households involved in tourism, building cycling, boating, and mountain climbing routes… so that guests can experience and discover the most unique aspects of Mai Hich tourism. At the same time, my family actively posts and advertises on social media platforms such as Facebook and Zalo with many attractive promotions and offers, so the number of tourists coming to Minh Tho homestay is increasing day by day.”
Thanks to a well-planned approach, Minh's family homestay welcomes thousands of tourists each year, including many international visitors, during weekends and holidays. Minh Tho Homestay covers an area of 1,000 square meters with 6 rooms, accommodating 30 guests. The shared room rate is 100,000 VND per person per night, while private rooms cost 800,000 VND per person per night. Along with the cost of food and other services, this generates a substantial income for the family.
Currently, Mai Hich commune has 11 households operating community-based homestay tourism services, mainly in Hich 1, Hich 2, and Cha Lang hamlets, with each homestay accommodating 25-30 guests. The area also boasts two high-end resorts, well-invested in: Mai Chau Valley Retreat in Hai Son hamlet and Mai Son De Mai Hich in Hich 2 hamlet. The commune is blessed with natural beauty, featuring babbling streams, fragrant rice paddies, and a community that preserves traditional stilt houses and unique cultural identity, along with rustic dishes like stream fish and wild vegetables. Therefore, it remains an attractive destination for tourists, especially foreigners.
The commune has 9 performing arts groups that perform at homestays. These homestays collaborate to create tours and routes with tourist villages in the district, such as Buoc village (Xam Khoe commune), Lac village (Chieng Chau commune), and Pom Coong village (Mai Chau town)... This adds to the appeal and enhances the promotion and introduction of tourism, people, and the cultural features of the Thai ethnic group to domestic and international friends.
Comrade Ha Van Bong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Mai Hich commune, said: "In the coming time, the commune will continue to encourage people to exploit the potential and advantages of the locality to develop community tourism. This will consolidate and preserve the ethnic cultural identity, increase people's income, and build Mai Hich community tourism into an ideal stopover for domestic and foreign tourists. Currently, the average per capita income in the entire commune reaches 40.8 million VND/year."
