According to officials from the commune's Farmers' Association, they visited the cardamom cultivation model under the forest canopy of member Mùa A Dủa in Pa Cư Sáng village. In 2009, after being taken by the commune's Farmers' Association to visit cardamom cultivation models inside and outside the province, Mr. Dủa boldly bought seedlings to try planting them under the forest canopy. To date, his family has nearly 5 hectares of cardamom that are thriving, yielding high productivity, and selling at stable prices, bringing a considerable income to the family.
Mr. Mua A Dua shared: "With nearly 5 hectares of cardamom under the forest canopy, we harvest more than 3 tons of fresh fruit each year, equivalent to nearly 1 ton of dried fruit, selling for about 150,000 VND/kg. In addition, the family also raises over 100 chickens and ducks and 3 buffaloes to improve their income. After deducting expenses, the family earns over 200 million VND per year, leading to a more comfortable life and better opportunities to provide for our children's education."
As for Mr. Thào A Lẩu from Sồng Chống village, thanks to the guidance and support from the commune's Farmers' Association in obtaining loans, his family invested in livestock farming, raising 15 cows and over 50 goats, earning more than 300 million VND annually. Mr. Lẩu said: "Besides loan support, the commune's Farmers' Association also facilitated my participation in training courses on livestock care, disease prevention, and protection against cold and hunger, which I successfully applied. I hope that in the future, the Association will continue to support farmers in ensuring stable sales."
These are just two of many typical economic models of farmer members in Xim Vang commune. To support members in economic development, from 2025 to the present, the Farmers' Association of the commune has coordinated the organization of 10 training courses on transferring techniques for planting and caring for cardamom, hawthorn, and livestock farming for over 300 members. In addition, the Association has facilitated visits and learning experiences from successful economic models within and outside the commune; maintained 3 savings and loan groups, and received over 10 billion VND from the Social Policy Bank for over 160 members to borrow for production development. Furthermore, the Association has effectively implemented capital from the Farmers' Support Fund, disbursing 800 million VND to 15 households to develop breeding cattle and cardamom cultivation in Xim Vang, Pa Cu Sang, and Suoi Lenh villages.
Thanks to practical solutions, Xim Vang commune has developed many suitable economic models such as cardamom cultivation under the forest canopy in Pa Cu Sang and Hang Cho villages; hawthorn cultivation in Nam Long and Xim Vang villages; and cattle and goat farming in Song Chong and neighboring villages, bringing in an income of 150-200 million VND per year. At the same time, the Association has also guided the establishment of three professional farmers' associations, including: a professional association for brewing rượu (rice wine) in Pa Cu Sang village; a professional association for purchasing cardamom in Pa Cu Sang village; and a professional association for purchasing cardamom in Hang Cho village. By 2025, the commune will have 15 members excelling in production and business; many households will have risen out of poverty and stabilized their lives. The poverty rate will decrease to 17.8%, contributing to promoting sustainable socio-economic development in the locality.
Mr. Hang A Long, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Xim Vang commune, said: The Association continues to focus on supporting members in transforming production methods, selecting crops and livestock suitable to actual conditions; at the same time, promoting linkages in production through the establishment and consolidation of cooperatives and professional associations, aiming to form agricultural value chains. Every year, we strive to have over 85% of members register for the title of excellent farmer in production and business; gradually building and expanding suitable economic models such as growing fruit trees and medicinal plants in a safe and sustainable manner, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural production in the area.
The achievements have affirmed the role of the Farmers' Association in the commune in accompanying and supporting members in developing production, building economic models suitable to the actual conditions, contributing to creating livelihoods to help people stabilize their lives, reduce poverty sustainably, and contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the locality.
