Treating rice straw with microbial technology increases soil fertility.

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Instead of burning rice straw immediately after harvesting as they have done for a long time, people in Trung Chinh commune (Nong Cong district) have been using biological products to treat rice straw, thereby increasing soil fertility, helping to improve crop yields, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Treating rice straw with microbial technology increases soil fertility.

By using NOVIECO to treat rice straw after harvest, the rice crop of Mr. Nguyen Ba Chung's family in Thanh Son village, Trung Chinh commune, was planted on time.

On his 15.6-hectare rice field, recently sown and planted, Mr. Nguyen Ba Chung from Thanh Son village, Trung Chinh commune, said: "Thanks to using NOVIECO fertilizer sprayed during the plowing period, all the straw on my family's recently harvested rice field quickly decomposed, making this rice planting season easier and ensuring it adheres to the commune's prescribed schedule."

Reportedly, this is the second time Mr. Chung has used the NOVIECO product to spray on his family's entire rice straw crop. Previously, this product was distributed free of charge by the District Farmers' Association to farmers in the commune for use after the 2024 spring rice harvest, in preparation for planting the summer rice crop. His family received 100 packets, enough to use on their rice land.

According to Mr. Chung, applying the product directly to the soil after plowing and leaving it for 5 to 10 days allows the straw to decompose naturally, facilitating soil preparation and planting. Furthermore, using the product increases soil fertility, helping rice plants thrive without the need for excessive fertilizer. As a result, the recently harvested spring rice crop yielded over 80 quintals/hectare, bringing his family hundreds of millions of dong in profit.

"Because of the effectiveness of using NOVIECO, even though the free support policy for the 2025 rice crop is no longer in effect, I still spent my own money to buy the product to treat rice straw. As a result, about a month after harvesting the spring rice crop, my family completed the planting of the summer rice crop. Currently, the rice plants have taken root and are developing very well, promising a bountiful summer rice harvest," Mr. Chung said.

Previously, all the rice straw on Mr. Le Cong Ca's 10 hectares of rice land in Phu Thanh village was disposed of by burning. During the recent spring crop season, he was selected by the Farmers' Association as a model for demonstrating rice straw treatment using the NOVIECO product, and received support in the form of 70 packets of the product.

Mr. Ca shared: “At first, I was hesitant because I was used to burning rice straw after harvesting. This method is simple, quick, and cleans the fields. However, burning rice straw creates a lot of smoke and dust, making the soil barren and infertile, leading to reduced yields. Therefore, to improve the soil with organic fertilizer, I decided to treat the rice straw according to the Farmers' Association's instructions by using biological products that cause the straw to decompose naturally. This method helps increase soil fertility, resulting in healthier rice plants without needing excessive fertilizer. In fact, from 10 hectares of rice land this spring-summer season, I harvested over 8 tons, 800 kg more than the previous spring-summer season.”

Besides Mr. Chung's and Mr. Ca's families, Trung Chinh commune has 168 households participating in the demonstration model using NOVIECO biological products to treat rice straw, covering an area of 150 hectares, mainly concentrated in villages such as Thanh Son, Tong Son, Phu Thanh...

Speaking about the effectiveness of treating rice straw with the NOVIECO biological product, Chairman of Trung Chinh Commune People's Committee Le Dinh Hung said: First of all, using the NOVIECO product, manufactured by Nong Viet Ecological Joint Stock Company, located in Gia Lam ( Hanoi ), not only meets the requirements for quick crop rotation, allowing for immediate planting of the main rice crop after the spring rice harvest, but also solves the environmental pollution problem caused by burning rice straw after harvest. In particular, using the NOVIECO product helps to quickly decompose the rice straw roots right in the field and transform them into humus, providing nutrients for the rice plants, reducing the amount of chemical fertilizers, and is safe and environmentally friendly...

With that in mind, to create a good habit of using straw treatment products after harvest instead of burning as has been the practice for a long time, Mr. Hung believes that, in addition to continuing to promote awareness and responsibility among local people to avoid burning straw to prevent environmental pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, he hopes that relevant departments and agencies will continue to provide support to farmers with biological products to create a habit of using them. Once the habit is formed, combined with the effectiveness of the product, he is confident that in the not too distant future, the indiscriminate burning of rice straw after harvest will no longer occur in Trung Chinh commune.
