Upholding the fine traditions of the nation
A delegation of leaders from the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, led by Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, visited and extended New Year greetings to exemplary religious leaders and officials.
During the program, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc and his delegation visited the Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Vice Dharma Chief of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Head of the Central Sangha Affairs Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; and the Office 2 of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

During the visit, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc provided a general overview of Ho Chi Minh City's socio -economic situation in 2025, highlighting many positive results. He also acknowledged and highly appreciated the practical contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in social welfare work, caring for the vulnerable and those in difficult circumstances, clearly demonstrating the humanitarian spirit and fine traditions of the nation, consistent with the motto "leaving no one behind." On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City wished Venerable Thich Thien Nhon and other dignitaries, monks, nuns, and Buddhists a peaceful, auspicious, and prosperous new year.
The delegation also visited Phuoc Thanh Pagoda to see Venerable Thich Thien Phap, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, and Head of the Central Inspection Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc cordially inquired about and wished Venerable Thich Thien Phap good health. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2026, Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc wished Venerable Thich Thien Phap, along with monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers, a peaceful, auspicious, and fulfilling new year.
In the atmosphere of the early spring days, the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City also turned their attention to neighboring localities, continuing to cultivate close and affectionate relationships. A delegation led by Ms. Van Thi Bach Tuyet, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, visited and extended New Year greetings to the Party Committee, government, and people of Lam Dong province.
During the visit, Ms. Van Thi Bach Tuyet shared about the close relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Lam Dong province, and wished the locality a speedy recovery from the difficulties caused by the recent storms and floods, and a stabilization of people's lives. On this occasion, Ho Chi Minh City donated 5 billion VND to Lam Dong province to support social welfare for people affected by storms and floods; provided 400 million VND in Tet gifts for disadvantaged people and 100 million VND in Tet gifts for children of border guard posts under the "Helping Children Go to School" program, as well as for officers and soldiers of border guard posts stationed in the province.
Taking care of welfare
Along with collective and local New Year visits and greetings, the city also pays specific and practical attention to outstanding individuals and those who have contributed to the revolution; implementing activities to care for the material and spiritual lives of the people, especially those in difficult circumstances.
Comrade Nguyen Cong Danh, Head of the Economic and Budget Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, led the 49th working group of Ho Chi Minh City to visit, extend New Year greetings, and present a congratulatory card and gifts from President Luong Cuong to Mr. Dang To Ha (born in 1926, residing in Vuon Lai Ward). In the card, President Luong Cuong wished Mr. Dang To Ha continued good health and family happiness; and encouraged him to continue motivating his children and grandchildren to nurture their families, preserve national cultural traditions, and make positive contributions to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland. The delegation also visited and presented New Year gifts to Mr. Phan Anh Nguyen (born in 1965, residing in Dien Hong Ward), a disabled veteran of category 1/4.
On February 11th, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper (SGGP), in collaboration with the Vietnam Investment and Development Bank (BIDV) - Ho Chi Minh City branch and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of Ben Thanh and Ban Co wards, organized the distribution of 100 Tet (Lunar New Year) gift packages to disadvantaged families, with 50 packages for each ward. Each gift package included 1 million VND in cash and a SGGP Spring calendar.
Speaking at the gift-giving ceremony in Ban Co ward, journalist Pham Van Truong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Chairman of the Trade Union of SGGP Newspaper, said that for many years, SGGP Newspaper has consistently carried out social welfare activities, especially targeting children, homeless patients, policy beneficiary families, and vulnerable people.
Every Lunar New Year, the newspaper proactively mobilizes and connects businesses, organizations, and individuals to join hands in caring for disadvantaged people so that they can celebrate the New Year in warmth and harmony. During the Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026, the Saigon Giai Phong newspaper mobilized over 700 million VND to care for disadvantaged people, poor patients, and social welfare facilities in the city during the Lunar New Year.
On February 11th, at the Youth Cultural Center (Ho Chi Minh City), Comrade Nguyen Minh Triet, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Permanent Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, bid farewell to thousands of workers, laborers, and students in difficult circumstances who were returning home for Tet (Lunar New Year) on buses from the "Bringing Tet Home" program in 2026.
Speaking at the farewell ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Minh Triet said that the tickets not only spread the spirit of sharing but also provided motivation for students and workers in difficult circumstances to celebrate Tet with their families; he also hoped that after the holiday, everyone would return to the city to continue studying and working effectively.
The "Bringing Tet Home" program in 2026 will provide 4,230 bus tickets and meaningful gifts to help students, young workers, and laborers studying and working in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai return to the provinces of Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, Da Nang, Hue, Quang Tri, Ha Tinh, and Nghe An.
