Xuan Son missed the penalty, Nam Dinh missed out on a victory.
Xuan Son entered Nam Dinh FC's away match against Thanh Hoa in the 12th round of the V.League on the evening of February 1st with high expectations, but his missed penalty in injury time turned him into the focus of disappointment.

Against Thanh Hoa FC, Xuan Son did not start. He came on the bench, despite being in particularly impressive goal-scoring form.
Prior to the clash in Thanh Hoa, the striker born in 1997 had scored 8 goals in just 4 matches, spanning both national team and club games. This impressive performance meant that every touch of the ball by Xuan Son was anticipated as a decisive moment.
Therefore, when Nam Dinh were awarded a penalty in the final minute of injury time, all eyes were on Xuan Son. He had been brought on not long before and immediately had the opportunity to become the hero.
However, Xuan Son's penalty kick hit the post. The match ended with Nam Dinh narrowly missing out on victory, only managing a 2-2 draw.
That moment created a stark contrast to what Xuan Son had shown before. From a striker with the highest goal-scoring efficiency in the league, he experienced the most cruel moment for a forward: missing a penalty at a crucial time.
However, the penalty shootout failure doesn't erase Xuan Son's excellent form, but it clearly raises questions about the psychological pressure he faces in crucial moments.
Returning to the match in Thanh Hoa , Nam Dinh started better. In the 6th minute, Lam Ti Phong opened the scoring for the visitors. Then, in the 29th minute of the first half, Brenner finished accurately, increasing the score to 2-0 and giving Nam Dinh a significant advantage.
However, Thanh Hoa did not give up. In the 38th minute, Nguyen Dinh Huyen narrowed the gap to 1-2 before the first half ended. In the second half, the home team increased the pressure and were rewarded in the 79th minute when Duong Thanh Hao scored an own goal, giving Thanh Hoa an equalizer at 2-2.
This draw accurately reflects the tense and emotional match in Thanh Hoa. For Nam Dinh, the focus of all post-match discussions remains Xuan Son, who came very close to deciding the fate of the game, but stumbled at the most crucial moment.
