Exporting goods is difficult to achieve.

Việt NamViệt Nam07/11/2023

Although Binh Thuan 's merchandise export turnover has shown a significant increase compared to the same period last year in recent months, it is still predicted that it will be very difficult to reach the target as expected...

For example, in September 2023, the province's merchandise export turnover reached over 66 million USD (an increase of 16.4% compared to the same period), while in October it is estimated to reach nearly 70 million USD (an increase of 30.64% compared to the same period in 2022). In October, export activities also showed optimistic signs with positive growth in all key product groups compared to the previous month. Specifically, the seafood group is estimated at 18.98 million USD (an increase of 6.97%), the agricultural products group at 0.95 million USD (an increase of 9.27%), and other goods group at approximately 49.96 million USD (an increase of 11.5%).

However, in the first 10 months of this year, Binh Thuan's total merchandise export value is estimated at only US$590.24 million, a decrease of 9.11% compared to the same period last year. Of this, seafood exports brought in approximately US$173.19 million (a decrease of 19.32%), agricultural products contributed US$11.68 million (an increase of 26.65%), while other goods accounted for an estimated US$405.37 million (a decrease of 4.73%). It is understood that the decrease in the province's merchandise export value is due to the ongoing difficulties in the global economy and the tightening of spending in many countries. Meanwhile, some local businesses exporting seafood and other goods have faced a lack of orders, thus impacting export activities. Therefore, although the export value of agricultural products increased, its contribution to overall growth was minimal because it did not account for a high proportion of the total export value compared to the two "leading" product groups (aquatic products and other goods).

Regarding direct exports, from the beginning of the year to date, goods from the province exported to Asia are estimated at US$428.41 million, an increase of 3.34% compared to the same period last year. However, exports to Europe decreased by 43.69% (estimated at US$37.48 million) and to the Americas decreased by 31.25% (reaching nearly US$108 million). Currently, several markets account for a large proportion of Binh Thuan's total export value, such as Japan (mainly shrimp, fish, other seafood, textiles...), Taiwan (clothing, seafood...). The US market mainly consists of footwear and whiteleg shrimp... while the Chinese market includes shrimp products, footwear, and various types of ore...

Recently, the export situation has gradually improved, and in industrial zones in Binh Thuan province, after a difficult start to the year, businesses are now stabilizing, with increased orders, especially for garments, wood, and footwear. However, with limited time remaining, the province's overall export target for 2023 is unlikely to be met, estimated at $714.4 million, a decrease of 8.59% compared to last year. Of the three main export groups, seafood is expected to contribute only about $210 million (a decrease of over 16% compared to the same period), agricultural products are estimated at $14.4 million (an increase of over 11%, with dragon fruit exports potentially bringing in $8.6 million, an increase of 11.41%), and other goods are estimated at $490 million (a decrease of 5.49%).

In the coming period, the locality will focus on implementing solutions to promote the search for and exploitation of new and potential markets to effectively export Binh Thuan's advantageous products. This includes gradually shifting from informal exports of agricultural products, especially dragon fruit, to formal export channels. Relevant agencies will continue to work with import-export businesses to understand their difficulties and obstacles, and promptly propose solutions to higher authorities to help businesses develop production and business, connect with and expand markets… The goal is to maintain positive growth in Binh Thuan's export turnover, striving to exceed 790 million USD in 2024.

The 2023 plan sets a target for the province's goods exports to reach a turnover of 819 million USD, including: 260 million USD for seafood products, 16 million USD for agricultural products, and 543 million USD for other goods (with garments contributing 276.7 million USD and footwear 81.2 million USD...).
