Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that these figures demonstrate strong growth and the potential for sustainable cooperation between the two countries.

According to Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Vietnam places great importance on opening its market to agricultural products and has made significant progress, such as the US allowing the import of fresh coconuts and pomelos in 2023. Vietnam also opened its market to pomelos, peaches, and nectarines from the US in July 2024. Agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development are finalizing procedures for other products such as oranges, tangerines, and seedless lemons from the US to enter Vietnam.

Regarding animal products, Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), stated that Vietnam has approved the import of 560 animal products from the United States, the largest number among the 26 countries that import animal products into Vietnam. However, the trade balance for animal products is still unbalanced. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Van Long hopes that the competent authorities of the United States will create more favorable conditions for the export of Vietnamese animal products to the US market. He also expects the United States to share its experience in controlling livestock diseases and combating antibiotic resistance.

Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), reported that in the first eight months of 2024, catfish exports to the United States decreased by approximately 30% compared to the same period last year. As this is one of the key export products, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested the USDA to facilitate and support the promotion of the product to international consumers.

Acknowledging the feedback from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ms. Alexis Taylor, Deputy Secretary of Agriculture of the United States (USDA), stated that, with the US Embassy and the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service in Vietnam acting as the focal point, the issues raised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will soon be resolved to ensure a balanced trade balance between the two countries.
