Notably, both exports and imports maintained high growth compared to the same period in 2025. Total export turnover in the first half of May (May 1-15) reached over 21 billion USD. Significantly, FDI enterprises contributed 16.8 billion USD, affirming their position as the main driving force behind Vietnam's export growth.
The group of goods including computers, electronic products, and components continues to maintain its leading position with export value exceeding 6 billion USD. The strong growth of technology and processed and manufactured goods shows that Vietnam remains an important link in the global supply chain.
In addition, traditional items such as textiles, garments, and footwear also maintained a good recovery momentum, with export values reaching $1.4 billion and $1 billion respectively.
Conversely, merchandise imports in the first half of May reached $26.7 billion. Of this, FDI enterprises accounted for nearly $20 billion. Imports were heavily concentrated in raw materials and machinery and equipment.
Leading the list of imports are computers, electronic products and components, with a value of up to $10.7 billion. Meanwhile, machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts also recorded a large import value of $3.2 billion.
Items serving the textile, garment, and footwear industries, such as various types of fabrics (US$766.8 million) and raw materials and accessories for textiles, garments, leather, and footwear (US$346.6 million), also accounted for a significant proportion. Notably, imports of various types of iron and steel reached over US$542.8 million, with an import volume of over 709,000 tons.
Cumulatively from the beginning of the year to May 15th, the total import and export turnover of the whole country reached 394 billion USD, of which exports amounted to 190 billion USD, an increase of 20.5% compared to the same period last year, and imports amounted to 204 billion USD, an increase of 31%.
The trade balance continued its downward trend, with a deficit of $14 billion.
