Yamal causes controversy again

Barcelona have confirmed that Lamine Yamal will be out for around three weeks due to a recurrence of a pubic injury, a problem that saw him miss four games in September.

Yamal experienced pain in his pubic area again after the 1-2 loss to PSG in the Champions League qualifying round in the early morning of October 2. The 18-year-old talent played the full 90 minutes, but paid the price with a recurrence of pain that prevented him from participating in the match against Sevilla on October 5.

Barcelona's announcement comes shortly after coach Luis de la Fuente called Yamal up to the Spain squad for the October FIFA Days, meaning Yamal will also miss the games against Georgia and Bulgaria. However, controversy has already started to appear on social media.

One fan said: "What happened to Yamal and Barcelona is a slap in the face of Spanish football. It's strange that he got injured right when FIFA Days started. Things can't go on like this anymore, measures need to be taken immediately."

Yamal’s injury sparked a row between coach Hansi Flick and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in September, after the Spanish coach decided to play Yamal in back-to-back games against Bulgaria and Türkiye despite the player feeling uncomfortable.

Coach Flick was upset: "Yamal joined the team when he was in pain. He had to take painkillers and played in pain. He had problems and still played for 79 and 73 minutes. This is not the way to take care of a player."

At 18, the La Masia gem still has a long way to go. Barcelona have reason to be cautious, not wanting their brightest talent to be worn down by a tough schedule.
