Yen Bai is one of five northern provinces selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to pilot the issuance of forest planting area codes. In recent times, Yen Bai province has focused on promoting product traceability, especially supporting farmers in issuing planting area codes for key local crops.
Accordingly, from 2022 to present, the whole province has granted 103 growing area codes with an area of nearly 1,165 hectares. Of which, there are 48 growing area codes for export on tea, grapefruit, Aquilaria, cardamom in the districts of Van Chan, Yen Binh, Van Yen, Mu Cang Chai with an area of nearly 875 hectares; 55 growing area codes for domestic consumption on tea, rice, citrus fruit, dragon fruit, tea, vegetables, bananas, turmeric, galangal, mushrooms, medicinal herbs in the districts of Van Yen, Tran Yen, Yen Binh, Van Chan, Luc Yen, Mu Cang Chai, Nghia Lo town and Yen Bai city with an area of over 274 hectares.
The issuance of growing area codes helps standardize the process from measurement, care, pesticide management to packaging and traceability. Thanks to that, Yen Bai's agricultural products such as tea, cinnamon, vegetables and fruits are increasingly competitive in the domestic and international markets; helping local people, businesses and managers improve the efficiency of quality management of agricultural and forestry products, aiming to expand the scale, improve productivity, quality and product value, contributing to the development of the agricultural economy .
