Yen Bai is one of five northern provinces selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to pilot the implementation of forest planting area codes. In recent times, Yen Bai province has focused on promoting product traceability, especially supporting farmers in obtaining planting area codes for the province's key crops.
Accordingly, from 2022 to the present, the entire province has issued 103 planting area codes covering nearly 1,165 hectares. Of these, 48 planting area codes are for export purposes, covering nearly 875 hectares of tea, pomelo, agarwood, and cardamom in the districts of Van Chan, Yen Binh, Van Yen, and Mu Cang Chai; and 55 planting area codes are for domestic consumption, covering tea, rice, citrus fruits, dragon fruit, vegetables, bananas, turmeric, galangal, mushrooms, and medicinal herbs in the districts of Van Yen, Tran Yen, Yen Binh, Van Chan, Luc Yen, Mu Cang Chai, Nghia Lo town, and Yen Bai city, covering over 274 hectares.
The issuance of planting area codes helps standardize processes from surveying, caring for, and managing pesticides to packaging and traceability. As a result, agricultural products such as tea, cinnamon, vegetables, and fruits from Yen Bai are increasingly competitive in domestic and international markets; helping people, businesses, and local management officials improve the efficiency of managing the quality of agricultural and forestry products, aiming to expand scale, increase productivity, quality, and value of products, contributing to the development of the agricultural economy .
