YouTube says it has received complaints from many users about the quality of video displayed across its platforms, including the app, web, and TV. The company is investigating the cause of the decline in video quality and is committed to providing updates as soon as possible.

Initially, most complaints came from iOS users, then spread to other platforms. The majority of users could only watch YouTube videos and YouTube Shorts at 144p or 360p resolution, resulting in severely blurry images on phones, computers, and 4K TVs. This error was not related to the internet connection or device but originated from YouTube's system.

Additionally, when users attempt to adjust video settings to 480p, 720p, 1080p, or higher, the video may stutter or encounter other errors. Some members on Reddit – the world's largest discussion forum – have reported that even when they manually set the video quality, the YouTube app automatically reverts to 144p every time they reopen it.

The extent of the impact of this bug is currently unclear, but YouTube's support page has received nearly 5,000 responses, indicating that many people are experiencing the same problem.

Typically, YouTube automatically adjusts video quality based on several factors to provide the best viewing experience. Video quality may change during playback depending on internet speed, screen size or video player, the original video quality, and the browser the user is using.
