In the preliminary round, the judging panel selected 44 exemplary hotel entries from 16 provinces and cities to advance to the final evaluation stage.
The closing ceremony and awards honoring the first edition of the Outstanding Smoke-Free Hotels ranking are expected to take place in late December.
The nationwide program aims to promote a clean, healthy, and responsible tourism environment in line with sustainable development goals. It is jointly organized by Cultural Newspaper in coordination with the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund under the Ministry of Health.
This initiative represents an important turning point for Vietnam’s tourism sector, contributing to the standardization of service environments, the protection of public health, and the enhancement of competitiveness across the accommodation industry.
As green, safe, and wellness-oriented travel continues to gain priority among both international and domestic travelers, the development of smoke-free hotels offers social benefits and a clear market advantage.
The 2025 ranking program is designed to encourage accommodation providers, particularly three-star hotels and above, to proactively comply with the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control. At the same time, it seeks to foster civilized, healthy, and environmentally friendly lodging spaces.
A smoke-free hotel is more than simply a non-smoking area. It reflects a strong commitment to safeguarding the health of guests and employees, reducing exposure to secondhand smoke, and helping Vietnam’s tourism industry move closer to regional and international standards of sustainable development.
