On the morning of August 17th, the Provincial People's Court sentenced defendant Nguyen Phuoc Tan (Hamlet 1, Kon Dao Commune, Dak To District) to 12 years in prison for the crime of "murder".

According to the indictment, at approximately 9 PM on February 5, 2023, Nguyen Phuoc Tan was drinking alcohol with friends at his house in Hamlet 1, Kon Dao Commune, when his father, Nguyen Phuoc Tu, returned home from an outing. Tan and his friends stopped drinking and went home, leaving only Y Kieu at Tan's house.
While Tan was cleaning, Mr. Tu scolded him for his frequent drinking and neglecting his work. An argument ensued, and Tan, angered, went into his bedroom, grabbed a sharp knife, and stabbed Mr. Tu once in the left side of his chest. Tan then retreated, attempting to stab Mr. Tu again, but Y Kieu intervened, preventing him from hitting Mr. Tu. After being stabbed, Mr. Tu was taken to the Dak To District Medical Center for emergency treatment, and then transferred to the Provincial General Hospital for further treatment, resulting in 12% bodily injury.
Based on the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the Provincial People's Court sentenced the defendant Nguyen Phuoc Tan to 12 years in prison for the crime of "Murder" as stipulated in Article 123 of the Penal Code.
